A very close friend just got his BA in English at age 50, and had several poems and short stories published in college collections over the course of his schooling. I rebound a set of paperback copies into a matching leather-bound set.
Of course it was first time trying any such thing, so I’m sure it is far from perfect but it came out pretty well and he loved them.
The only thing I’m really unhappy with is the foiling, because I decided I should not invest in hundreds of dollars of hot stamping equipment, so I made stencils and used my foil quill pen, and I should have practiced MUCH more before actually tackling the covers. But hand-made is imperfect.
I have TheMisterT’s 1st two published novels, which only came out in softcover, rebound in hard cover and it is is expensive, because it requires special skills - YOU GOT 'EM!
This is so well done! Tbh, I don’t think I’d have thought twice about (what I assume is) the foiling, so to the untrained eye I don’t think whatever imperfections may be there are glaring.
They are from We R Memory Keepers, and have a brass nib that heats up, and then you can use hot foil to draw on surfaces. Bookbinding normally uses brass stamps and hot foil to decorate covers, and I already had the foil and quill pen, so I figured it was close enough. Lol
