Saint-equal-to-the-apostles Princess Olga painting

That’s a title and a half, but that is her name, she ruled Russia in the tenth century. My friend in the SCA asked me to paint her onto a wooden box, I spent about four hours on it in total and I am very happy with the result. It’s done in acrylics with gold leaf. Just needs varnishing and I can give it to her tomorrow.

You can see the size from my daughter’s hands holding it.

This is the original painting that I copied

Woo, that’s fab! Very recognizable but you’ve somehow given a little more life to her face & expression. Beautifully done!

I put tiny tiny highlights in her eyes, which aren’t on the original, her eyes looked too flat without. And I gave her the closest thing to a smile, without being a smile-icons don’t smile!

Really beautiful! Such amazing detail in that little piece, including all the high and low lights.
