Back when I made the Scrappy Potato Chip Quilt, I used up nearly all my bright rainbow scraps. Everything that could be cut to a 2.5" strip was cut down, and all that was left was the smallest of offcuts. At the time I did a little improv piecing, and had about 8 of those chunks sitting around in one of my bins. I decided I needed an easy win this week, so I pulled them out to turn into potholders. I was able to piece the smaller bits into 4 potholders, and a mug rug, by adding in some black & white pieced sections that didn’t work out for a previous quilt top, and a few 1.5" strips.
The quilting is what I’m calling “pinball quilting”. I just started at some random point, and bounced around randomly, to create even more chaos. One set is quilted in hot pink, the other in yellow. Both allowed me to use up the last of those spools AND their bobbins. The backing is turquoise Grunge with a bit of cream & yellow in it, and I managed to use up the last of it too.
Once I had them all together, I thought I’d bind them in a black & white small stripe. But it was a bit overwhelming with the whole edge in stripe, and I thought it might be fun to add a pop of the stripe within an otherwise plain black border. I love the how they came out!
I love your Pinball Quilting technique too! I’m a big fan of black and white stripes with bright colors, so these are definitely right up my alley. These are absolutely gorgeous! I love the little black and white loops too.
