Sculpture Swap idea

I am tossing out this idea now to gauge interest, but I am thinking of running a Sculpture Swap in Jan/Feb. Any medium is welcome—Sculpey, air-dry clay, whittling, ceramics, paper mache, wood —you name it, it’s welcome.
You will have to list five themes, and your partner will create one amazing sculpture and send it to you.
If you are interested, let me know and I will tag you when I start the swap. :sun_with_face:

Absolutely my jam! Please tag me when sign ups start.

In unrelated news, I’m thinking of waiting until January for the Tea/Coffee or Recipe Swap because holiday season is such a mad rush.

That’s exactly why I am waiting.

Might be fun… :eyes: doing clay stuff for swaps can be hit or miss depending on the kiln schedule, but I could always do something else if it doesn’t line up right.

I’m definitely intrigued!

I was thinking of starting sign-up next week, Feb 16 - 26, and giving a 6-week crafting period ending on April 13th. How does this sound to everyone?

That works for me. I just finished my last swap item for the Positive Affirmations Swap so it’s perfect timing.

I’ve got a bunch of air dry clay that’s been staring at me longingly, I might have to join! Although my clay skills are shall we say, beginner

All levels welcome. What we are looking for is effort. Plus, i can’t believe your talent will be anything less that amazing.

I’m down! I just learned the paper clay I made months ago actually kept from drying out in the container it was in. It’ll be nice to have another gradual project!

Okay. Im thinking with this swap we will put a couple of parameters on it.
No stuffies or arigarumis (i can never spell that word), because we already have swaps for those. Also, and no paper crafts that can be concidered “assembly.” For example, if you cut it out on a machine (or kit) and put it together. That would be assembly, not sculpting.
Everyone cool with this? Anything else you feel like i should answer or feel like Im being too strict? Let me know. Please!

I like it! I was definitely thinking “something made out of some kind of clay” when I saw this swap.

Agreed! Some kind of additive art like clay or plaster or paper mache, or something made by carving/removing material. I think there are assemblages that are fair, like welded or glued objects to make something new, but these aren’t based on a predetermined pattern.

On a similar note, I learned a number of years ago that cured polymer clay is really nice to carve with wood carving knives, but I haven’t tried it again since.

I only just saw this thread right now, and I might be interested! (I am going to get pretty busy with lots of things very soon though…)
Six weeks miiiight be enough for actual stoneware on my end… if I get something started immediately and the timing of everything works out. But it might also be a great opportunity to try out some papier mache or carving of something else entirely!

Its open!

@Gozer so this would put felt art dolls as a no?

I mean this would give me a reason to dry air dry clay or paper mache, but I’m definitely not confident with those.

Felt dolls are not allowed. Thanks for the question!
