Sea Turtle in pan pastel and colored pencil

I made this sea turtle for @Tapestry in a personal swap earlier this year and realized I never posted it! I used a tutorial from Lachri over on YouTube and did trace the general shape of the sea turtle and features so I could focus on the fun bits  I used pan pastel for the background and to block in the colors then colored pencil and pastel pencil for all the details.

He came out super cute and I had a hard time parting with it :joy: Thanks for looking!

Heโ€™s wonderful! His face has such personality and Iโ€™m not sure that heโ€™s not a wise sage of The Deep.

Beautiful work as always. I love that serene background. Itโ€™s difficult to achieve that subtle water effect but you nailed it.

He looks so soft and dreamy! I have a bunch of pan pastels I got years ago. I need to dig those out and play around with them a bit more! I know Iโ€™d never be able to come close to something this amazing, however.

What type of colored pencils did you use? Prismacolors?

You should! I bet you could make something gorgeous with them!

Polychromos, Caran dโ€™Ache Luminance, and Derwent Lightfast. I found out that like 2/3 of prismacolors arenโ€™t lightfast so I switched to other brands.

Off to research! Thanks!
