Second Mary Quant style dress

I made a second dress using the free pattern from the V&A Museum. Because the fabric has stripes, I made the pointed collar rather than the Peter Pan collar I used on the first one. And this one doesn’t have pockets. I used contrasting fabric for the lining. I cut it the dress the length of the fabric I had, which made it, without hemming, exactly the length I wanted, so I bound the hem with bias tape.

I think this dress in this fabric might benefit from a little spray starch

Very nice! I like how you made tweaks to suit the fabric you were using. And that lining fabric…swoon!

I love everything about this! Your fabric choices are totally groovy :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I just looked up the pattern, and I might give it a try this summer (things are chaotic right now).

Did you just use cotton fabric for this? There’s a fabric store near me that sells cotton fabric fairly cheaply, and it would be so fun to pick out some interesting fabrics to play around with.

Yes, just quilting cotton. The lining fabric was a bit too thin for the dress body itself but worked fine as lining. The striped fabric is just a little heavier but still thin.

Excellent! I have a co-worker who often brings in food for me, and since cooking is not my strength, I’d love to make a dress for her. I might have to hit up the fabric store soon!
