When we moved into this house in 2007, this 8 x 10 foot shed was smack dab in the center of the back of a narrow city lot. My first step went right through the floor. We took the roof off the shed to repaint the rusty parts and built a new platform in the corner from salvaged wood. Luckily, friends gifted us some railway ties to use as the foundation.
Last year as I was reorganizing the shed (a hopeless task), I noticed the back corners were rotten out. And critters have been living under and in the shed for years. Groundhogs under and mice inside. Ugh. Our trusty handyman helped us move the shed off the platform, and he rebuilt part of it. He is young and has little experience with building anything, but I let him have at it, and he did a fairly nice job. It’s a shed after all, and he charges a reasonable price.
After the shed was moved back, my DW built a framework of 2 x 4s so we can add hooks and such. I then built a set of shelves. It is too hot right now to finish screwing down the shelves and restocking the shed. It can be an oven in there. But the backyard looks like a garage sale.
What a lovely green garden, and a much improved shed! It looks like you will get a bountiful delicious harvest. We’ve had weather bouncing between the 100 degree bursts and cool and rainy, and everything has survived, so here’s hoping your plants all do fine as well!
Your garden is so lush and looks like it’s going to provide for a bountiful year! And way to go mending and maintaining your shed for a future of good use. It’s lovely that you helped a young person learn more about their trade in the process.
I’ll bet the shed upgrade feels so good! Your garden is beautiful. As someone who gardens very little (and when I do, I just step outside the back door and till a little bit wherever I happen to stand), your garden beds are so organized and look so inviting.
Thank you. Since I retired in two and a half years ago, I’ve been working on getting the garden back in shape, this fence is the latest in a battle against deer and groundhogs. And voles.
We eat a lot of salads, green beans, etc. and make as much spaghetti sauce asnwe can.
