Should I reuse this quilt?

Help needed from my quilty LC’ers.

My MIL gave me this quilt, but has no idea where it came from. The topper is not a pieced pattern, but rather printed panels that are machine sewn together. In addition, there is a blue ink border for all the printed flowers and stems upon which someone had hand stitched the quilting. To me it looks like a practice quilt for a beginner.
My problems are:

  1. It has stains in several places that will not come out.
  2. The topper and backing fabric are low thread count thin cotton. They rip easily and mending them causes more tears. Frankly, they are as thin as tissue.
  3. The colors are almost completely faded.
My question is whether it is appropriate to just use it as the batting layer for a new quilt.
    Picture for reference:

I wouldn’t. I think if it is that thin and already ripping, it can continue to do so and maybe cause bunching on the new quilt.

Maybe you can use the better parts for smaller, not so time consuming projects, like totes that won’t have as much wear and tear.

I do love the totally crinkly look of old, worn quilts, though!

I love the look, too, but it is not usable in its current state.

That is some lovely quilting, given that it seems to be a beginner’s project. A shame it’s so degraded.
