It’s been a while since I made one of these and wrote this. So I actually chained two at the start of each row and ignore the chain.
I single crocheted down each side when I was done with the blanket, so it will cover up those chains in the end.
I made one and I just did a dbl crochet next to the chain then skipped a stitch and followed on with the pattern (I also did the 3 dbls through both loops on the second blanket I made of this pattern and liked it a bit better personally)
