After cutting flannel for the boys’ pajamas, I had a few yards of this green plaid left. It was exactly enough for a tiered maxi skirt and the perfect fabric for Winter lounge wear. It’s Slytherin House colors, and it matches DH’s jammies, too!
There wasn’t enough fabric for in-seam side pockets, so I made an attempt at patch pockets. First try was a bust - placed too low to be useful - and so I picked out the stitches. Second try is higher than I prefer, but I was not going to be attempting to stitch over the gathered fabric. I did not like how the opening of the pockets gaped, so I added a strip of elastic to the top edge of the pockets. Not the most elegant fix, but very functional.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with this skirt. It’s so warm - even without leggings on underneath, it was very, very warm. It’s a full-length maxi, and I usually wear my skirts midi-to-ballet length…I may go back and shorten it a few inches if it bugs me.
What a great use for the extra flannel. I love it. My younger punk/goth self would have loved wearing that with a black top, black moto jacket, and Doc Martin’s. Oh, and lots of black eyeliner. My today self (much less young ) would wear it with a sweat shirt and sneakers.
I love the styling ideas, @J-squared! I might actually be able to fit back into my leather jacket now, and that would be so cute! It’s one of those pieces that I couldn’t bear to get rid of, even after I gained weight, just the perfect jacket. Even had half-zip sleeves. But, pairing it with a sweater/sweatshirt is probably the best combo for HP marathons and doing laundry.
Good job! I love HP clothing. I have quite a stash from all my many Halloween costumes. It’s a very dreamy and delicate skirt, not the typical slytherin style, how fun!
I never did care for how muggle-ish the clothes were in the movies. It would have been nice to see them stick to the books better in terms of costuming. My style is pretty much Dark Academia meets Cottage Core, especially in the depths of Winter when I hide out in the Dungeon (basement) library.
