It was a yummy brown butter, cinnamon-spiced yellow cake layer with salted caramel peach filling and a vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. The flowers are also swiss buttercream (daisies, yellow roses, blue colombine, and billy balls to match the arrangements my sister in law made). With that, I also made a Texas sheet cake (Homesick Texan’s recipe) and a giant banana pudding (the kind made with vanilla pudding mix, sour cream, whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk–and my addition, Walker shortbread in lieu of Nila Wafers).
My parents were married for over fifty years before my mom unfortunately died of cancer four years ago, and my dad’s sweet new wife has a similar story–we’re really happy they found each other.
Congratulations on your dad’s wedding! Such a beautiful cake, and a beautiful story. It’s so amazing that your dad and his new wife were able to find love again. Did you make all those flowers yourself??
Beautiful baking! And I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom, but glad your dad has found someone to share his life with, and you have a new family member to celebrate.
What a lovely story of late-in-life love for your dad and his bride! Your cake is beautiful and the story of you and your sister contributing to the celebration makes it all the more so.
