Hi there crafty buddies, just a quickie from me today. I just wanted to share the sleeping bags (or snuggle sacks… or cosy caves… I’ve seen them called all sorts!) that I made for Arwen and Atlas recently
Not the most complex of projects for sure, just 2 large rectangles of fabric. The hardest part was actually trying to cut them to the size I needed (around 50 x 80"), I have a cutting area in my office but it’s only like 20 x 30" and fleece can be a little awkward!
Mr Loops pointed out that it really didn’t have to be exact tho, no-one was going to visit with a ruler and a set square, so I cut them best I could, and covered my floor with the floof and detritus of cutting up 4 metres of fabric (sorry to mix measurements, I’m in the UK and I’m Gen X, it’s what we do, lol )
Anyways, I used a dark grey sherpa fleece for the snuggly lining (technically they’re actually reversible) and a super cute doggy themed cuddle fleece fabric for the outer.
I made Arwen’s initially as Atlas was using Rosie’s old sleeping bag, and here’s a shot of her trying it out on the sofa. I knew I had to make him a matching one as he’d clearly fallen in love with it already!
I am not sure if Atlas fell in love with the sleeping bag or Arwen. He looks like he adores her.
They are so cute, and I bet the snuggle sacks are super warm and cuddly! Cute idea for even cuter pups.
LOOK AT THE SWEEPY BABIIIIIIES! ACK! Those look like the perfect thing for your two. Are they able (willing?) to get inside on their own? I was never able to get Betty or Delia to cover themselves, but they loved to be covered or crawl under the bedclothes with us. Vivienne doesn’t really like having a blanket on her and it breaks my heart, because it’s so nice to make them cozy and warm and they look so cute!
@AIMR We’re deffo very guilty of spoiling them a lot!! You’ve just gotta tho, I mean look at 'em
@gozer You know you’re not wrong there, he does absolutely adore her! We have a few cameras in the house to keep an eye on them when we’re out or just working in our home offices, and he’s always trying to lay as close to her as he can, quite often laying his head on her
@TheMistressT I wish they could tbh, we kinda arrange the sleeping bags on their beds so that they just lay in the middle when they settle down and then we can pull the back over them. Arwen usually toddles off to the sofa in my office, or the spare bedroom half way through the night and she’s as quiet as a mouse, but Atlas will stay in his sleeping bag for a few hours, then get up for a shake, then cry cos he can’t get back in again so we have to get up and cover him (or let him in our bed!), and then repeats a couple of hours later!!
I could never manage to train Rosie to cover herself either, she knew how to “roll over”, and she knew how to “take” something in her mouth, so I thought I’d be able to teach her to roll up in a blanket but it just never happened!
I tried to make a kind of low tent kind of blanket thing for Betty, because she needed covering in the middle of the night, too. It was a total failure.
@TheMistressT Awww, I love a pup that likes being all snuggly wuggly!! I’ve seen the ones that are like a sleeping bag but have like a wired opening, or rather using something like a half hula hoop or the like so that the pup can get in ok but snuggle at the back. I think that would defo be the next thing I’d consider trying, tho Atlas is so bloomin tall that he’d have to stoop a lot to get in, and it would probably end up being a disaster
@MistressJennie Thank you so much Simple enough to make, and a whole heck full of good feels to see them snuggly in them!!!
@Tapestry Thank you! Very much so, if we had the space and the money we’d rescue more brothers and sisters for them!!
@gozer I’ve got my boy laying on the sofa in my office behind me at the moment (laying on his back with his paws in the air like he just don’t care!), and I can see Arwen on one of our house cams laying on our bed, snuggled into our pillows They give me so many squeeeeees they’re just too cute!!
