I make a lot of ornaments out of recycled soda cans. They can be used both indoors and out, and cans are readily available and come in a variety of fun colors.
To make the star first you cut your can and open it up. (I used 2 cans for this star so that both sides would look the same).
Next you trace a circle, and cut it out. (Choose a piece of the can where you like the colors). I trace it on one side. And cut both at once because you really want both halves to be identical.
Now gently crease your circles in eighths (you will make 4 folds). Be gentle. If you crease too firmly, you will break the can. They are surprisingly fragile.
Then use a straight edge to fold a trough midway between each of your folds.
Next cut a straight line about 1/4” long along each trough crease. Try to make them identical (I draw a line on my scissors). Tie a bead to a piece of string or fishing line and place it inside the top point.
Gently fold in both sides of all 8 points, trapping the bead inside the top one. Then take the second circle, place it behind the fist half of the star, and gently fold all the points around the finished side.
Voila! You have a star ornament.
