Soft sculpture Dragon

My Secret Santa partner loves mythical animals and handcrafted items, so I got to make her gift!

I call this a kimono dragon because her body is crafted from an old rayon kimono. I actually did the body for the ornament swap this year, but since it is more than a foot long, I realized it was too big and made a smaller version. That saved time for this project!

the crest down her back is multicolored hairy yarn

her wings and tongue are animal print silk

She has a patch of colorful sequins on her belly

All from stash, including the wire armature.

Dang, this is cool! The design (and critter) fits the scrappy style and the print choices SO WELL!

Oh, wow! She is spectacular! Such a stylish beast. I’m a sucker for sequins, and all of those fabrics are very dragony.

We did our exchange today. She loved the dragon, said it reminded her of the movie Yellow Submarine.

She also got the dragon dome.
