It’s here! My secret project is here! The art show was TODAY and NO ONE guessed this was mine. I was not surprised.
I made this collage for an art show where local artists are challenged to make a piece of artwork not in their own style that’s usually shown at the gallery, and then we guess who did what. I moved into our place last year and that meant I had a chance to finally rescue my collage supplies I’ve collected over the years that was locked away in storage since 2011. I spent days going through my vintage ephemera that included National Geographics, craft magazines, children’s books, textbooks, stationery and letters, reciepts, etc. I think the oldest piece of paper I used was from the late 1800s. I spent days carefully going through everything, without an actual theme. There was actually a lot of things I wanted to use, but didn’t end up using them. The whole thing came together as I was pasting things together. I’m so happy with how cohesive it looks. I worked from the background base of old stationery and then worked from the center out. I love how it turned out. I don’t remember the finished size, but we were all given the same canvas. I was the only person who did collage, everyone else worked with acrylics. Everyone loved mine and oooh and ahhh-ed when I said it was mine. Felt good. Ringo’s head on a Beetle was my favorite part tbh. Haha.
ENJOY!
oh and my art teacher came to my booth and said, I remember you! I was like, finally! Haha.
Wow!! So much to explore…I got lost in it for a few minutes. While it’s definitely not your typical style, the images selected do still feel like you somehow. I agree Ringo the beetle is hilarious!

I can see some of you in the piece…the fluffy shapes and the colors. I love it! I really like how everything seems to be radiating out of the center. You planned well! So many iconic things. The Eve cigarettes brought back memories.
I bet you and your fellow artists had a lot of fun creating and also guessing.
Kudos for having the art teacher finally recognizing you…ha ha ha!.
It was so cathartic to go through my collection of vintage ephemera for this. Making collages is a process I very much enjoy, much like my typical style. I have a step-by-step routine when I work on art. I don’t know why, but repeating the processes brings so much comfort to my brain.
It is certainly chaotically cohesive, with emphasis on cohesive! It’s not even chaotic, really. It just seems like a good word for it. I was drawn to it right away. So much to gaze at and explore.
I love collage too and how the backlog of scraps and ephemera can be used up. Much comfort, restfulness and purpose in the process of planning and creating a collage, whether as tiny art or larger, as you’ve done.
Your collage is just C*O*O*L! And I rarely use that word!
