Neighbour & I drew out some quick google glass ideas that were a bit more ambitious. We were scrambling to get done at the end so solder is a bit wonky but I’m still quite pleased with mine.
Thanks friends! You really need a frame to work inside to keep things square but there wasn’t one so I just resigned myself to an organic edge. It’s mountains for my hippie man & he’s pretty organic, haha. He loves it!
My dad was an amazing glass artist so I got lots of experience growing up. I think going into it with confidence makes a big difference. My neighbour friend had no experience but she took my tips & kept pace with me whilst our table mate was much slower. For her 2nd piece she made that awesome sun-moon multi-pieced number with curved bits that took a lot of grinding, foiling, & soldering. I was so impressed with her!

The apple did not fall far from the tree! Your pieces are lovely and well made. Your dad definitely was guiding you. I particularly love his mirror and your mountain scene!
I forgot you’d posted these! I love seeing them again. Having done a class now I’m even more impressed you finished your star AND that mountain scene in the allotted time.
Did the studio you went to use a motorized grinder (the kind with a bubbler so there’s water as you’re grinding)?
I want to do more stained glass pieces, but I’d prefer to do them at home. I have all the supplies…except a grinder.
Thanks friends! Yes @Tapestry there was a wet grinder there. You really need that to get pieces to fit perfectly.
I finally got my papa’s magnum opus hung. Still needs more polishing, it’s been boxed up for 20 years or so. It’s 2’x4’! I’ve only had a window big enough in 1 home all this time.
Dad. What a magnificent artist. He cut & beveled everything on machines he designed & built. He had to figure it all out himself, he said glass artists are real tight with their secrets.
Dad was undiagnosed bi-polar, he got REALLY into his interests. Nobody understood him but he was charming & charismatic & ever so talented, musically too. What a guy
