lol. It’s apparently a Taylor swift song. My cousin is a fan!
Oh this is nice! How did you finish it? I like the silver edge around it, it feels very Christmassy!
It’s glued to a cardboard circle and backed with felt. I’m obsessed with that sparkly trim!
Lol - it’s great, love it!
What kind of glue do you use? I am so afraid to use glue because I’ve used several (so called transparant) glues that left horrible stains on the embroidery. I finished a couple of things in hoops the other month, and I used cellotape or washitape on the back, but that doesn’t really stick. I guess I need to use glue!
I used both of these. The scotch glue was to glue to the cardboard then I used the fabric glue to tack the cloth to itself and for the trim. I only put the glue on the back of the piece and the sides for the trim. I didn’t glue the front to the cardboard…if that makes sense?
I don’t usually use glue for hoops but I have received ones that were glued.
I use Fabric Fusion as well. And, like you, I just glue the the edges to the cardboard, not the actual worked piece. I also use some thin batting to back up the piece so the holes don’t show as much. I haven’t had any problems with using glue to tack on most fabrics for hand stitching or hexie making. For that, I use good old Elmers School glue that is purple but turns clear when dried.
Ooo. I should have done that. I’ll try to remember this!
Just don’t use white batting for other colors because it does show through! I started using closely matched felt as my batting for other colors. I wish more craft supplies were available besides white…I discovered BLACK polyfil in one of my store bought pillows…I have always wondered why they didn’t make more colors since so many people do amigurumi these days!
After purchasing duplicates of embroidery threads at Joann’s yesterday, I made a spreadsheet of my threads by number so I can take it with me when there is a sale. All threads were 53 cents but I bought 4 that I already had (apparently, I am drawn to the same yellows and greens all the time!).
I am going to look at all of my threads and write down colors I am missing or use a lot…I have a lot of stitching I want to do this year for Halloween and Christmas.
Great idea! I always just pick colors willy-nilly but really followed (as close as I could with store stock) the pattern color numbers for the xmas stitches I did. I want to pay more attention for future stitches! I have a pattern picked out to start once I’m out of sweater land.
I have two boxes of thread…one that is unnumbered and one that is numbered. I still pick threads from what I have and that I like. I am just trying to get more variety and shades of the colors I like. When I go to the store, I get a bit overwhelmed, but with a list, I can see which greens I already have, which are low, etc. My preference for stitching is not cross stitch so actual colors don’t mean a lot to me…the last cross stitch I did, I followed the colors as close as I could, but I wasn’t married to them…I use the color charts as a starting point.
Oh, the beauty and the curse of quarterly themes! I had actually finished stitching this in January, but wanted to wait until I had washed and finished it before posting, and, well, here we are. I’m calling this a motivational quote because I’m a huge grammar geek, but also (cough, Spring Awakening, cough) bears start coming out of hibernation around now, maybe?
The pattern is from Lindy Stitches, back when she had an Etsy shop, and made me laugh as soon as I saw it so I knew I had to stitch it. It’s mounted on a 5" x 7" canvas and now hangs in my stitchy nook so I can motivate myself to grammar greatness, haha.
I’ve just realised that although I’m not on point with the themes, my projects so far have been stitchy ones. I think I’ve only shared them to the 50 projects board so hopefully, I’m not going to upset anyone by posting here as well.
I’m glad to see a whole bunch of finished things @wittychild and @Renstar ! Regardless of themes, at least you guys are stitching. I can’t remember my last contribution to this thread.
Nice to see stitching going on…I also feel like I have neglected stitching, which I know is good for my moods and helps me de-stress.
I’m going to see what patterns I have that could be quick wins. I also think I am out of stitching fabric, except for linen.
I love Smokey! laughed at the “period” correctly placed at the end of the imperative sentence!
@renstar…the sashiko is lovely as well…are you doing more for a project or just small pieces?
I have no idea what I’m doing with this,
I bought it years ago with no plan, and now it’s done, I’m trying to find an end game for it. (Glad to have completed a bucket job).
Any ideas on how to make this a ‘thing’ are welcome. It’s currently approx 13.5x13.5 inches.
It would make a lovely panel in a tote bag. Maybe you could find Asian-inspired prints or shibori/batiks and put the panel in the center. I have used embroidery/cross stitch pieces in several totes…they are practical and make good gifts!
Hahaha…love that stitch @wittychild!! Looks like you mounted it on canvas? I love the non-hoop finishing.
Yay @Renstar - love your VW stitches! Do you still have your Bug?
Ooo…the sashiko is beautiful! AIMR’s tote bag suggestion is good! I could also see it as the center piece on the front of a throw pillow.
I had picked up a two-pack of cheap canvases (heck, I’m not painting on them or anything) when Michaels has them on sale for this very purpose. It’s a nice way to finish oblong designs that wouldn’t centre nicely in a hoop, but less fussy than framing.
