Just an Idea of something I need. My cat has CH (wobble-kitty), and she uses a raised bowl. She is kind of messy. I have been keeping a towel under her bowl but would love to have a small placemat for her. About 10"x10". I will switch them out as I wash them, and they will be washed regularly. If you want to ask me more, feel free!
Sounds like something woven would be ideal. Or maybe a tight knit. What colors?
Maybe to match my kitchen, which is light brown/beige with pops of bright spring green (think Kuchi Kopi). I wouldn’t be too particular, though. I don’t think Tipsy is going to care.
But keep in mind she cannot control her body well, so she uses her claws to pull herself and keep her balance on the carpet sometimes. This is the reason something slick won’t work, or I’d grab a normal pet tray. Her claws could get stuck in anything not tightly done. Then she would pull over her wet food and I know her, she would roll in it. LOL! I know this from litterbox experience. She gets a lot of baths.
I know you can pull it off!
Hmm. So it would need like… grippy stuff. Or Velcro.
No. I was just trying to clarify in case anyone else was thinking of knitting or crocheting something. This is going to sit on the carpet, so that should keep it from sliding. She doesn’t eat in the kitchen because the slick flooring can make her fall over. When she is excited or nervous, it is worse, and sometimes she gets really excited for breakfast. CH cats do a “pecking” at the bowl because they can’t control their heads fully so it gets all over the floor around her raised bowl.
I am planning to make a couple of patchworked placemats for her, but I know these will have to get washed a lot so I thought having more would be nice.
Oh! Maybe Christmas or Halloween colors would be nice. Any holiday really.
Oh my gosh having holiday themed placements is so cute! And I totes forgot about sewing, heh, probably because I’m bad at it.
I finally started my first project for STS and it’s black yarn which I’m kind of regretting. Lol. It’s coming along nicely though.
I thought of something I could use - a small (12”ish) square bottomed bag that I could use for take-out containers. I’ve been requesting no bag when I order takeout and I’ve been using reusable grocery bags. They are too big though and stand too tall, making it awkward for me to load the containers without tipping them on their sides (I’m short and counters are tall). It would only need to be like 8” tall.
Maybe some sewers could whip a little something up?
I’ve been stocking up on these.
Would anyone be interested in stamped bongle style bracelets? I can pre-stamp them or you could “buy” them and I can personalize. They fit about 8 letters comfortably.
I have at least 5 different lettering choices.
I love that idea. I would probably buy one. I will prefer to buy it and have you customize during the swap, just in case things get weird with my points.
Oh this will be fun!
Colorado has a ten cent per bag policy. I have a lot of reusable bags, lol. It was weird when I went to a Midwest state that does not have that and automatically bagged even the smallest item that I could have easily fit in my mini backpack. I’m so used to people asking, “Do you want that in a ten cent bag?” And the reply is usually, “No, I brought my own.”
Where was I going with this? I woke up at 6am, that’s my excuse.
It’s 7 cents in Chicago but I’ve only been asked if I needed bags, not how much they cost. It seems like it would be more effective to remind people of the extra costs (and waste).
I think they do it so people don’t flip out on them.
I’ve been doing reusable bags for 20+ years (which means the nice canvas ones my mother got me when I graduated college have actually got to the point of earning out their manufacturing cost in plastic bags I haven’t used!) and the one that got me was the cashier who insisted on bagging my groceries in plastic to put them into my reusable bag.
I have a whole bunch of nice canvas boxy totes that I take with me when I grocery shop. I used to use reusable bags, but these condense nicely and hold a lot of weight, so they are super nice.
I live in a blue college town county in a very red state. I could see the college town trying to implement something (it came up before and people go crazy!) but nothing has come of it.
If they would stop using the cheap-o plastic for bags, then they could hold more and use less when bagging.
To get back on topic,I believe I still have a couple tie-dyed bags available from last round I can offer.
I bring my own totes to the store and collect co-workers’ plastic bags at work. I have cats. Enough said. Ha!
In Oregon it costs 5¢ for a bag and the city of Portland has a ban on single use plastic bags.
I use a lot of poop bags though! I found some that cost twice as much, but are made out of cornstarch. I buy a box every other time. It’s hard to be sustainable when you are also on a humble budget. I wish the corporations would make more of an effort to reduce packaging so we don’t have to try so hard on our end.
I saw a show once where a company created a replacement for styrofoam out of densely-grown mushrooms. I thought for sure it was going to take off. Haven’t seen it yet.
yes!
or they put 100 pounds in the reusable bag just bec it’s big enough to hold more??
come on, help distribute the weight for me so I don’t topple over, please
back to the topic at hand –
does anyone have any knit wishes for the fall?
I was thinking maybe fingerless mitts or hats
I always love hats, but I like them to be a bit loose and slouchy if that changes anything.
Might be a big ask, but could you do this in an adult size?
