Thanks for thinking of all of us, Iri!

totally agree about 5 weeks not being a long time at all!

and the thought occurred to me as I noticed increased prices this week even w/Pirate Ship that maybe the USPS is aiming for the same pricing structure as UPS? :frowning:

Here is the proposal from @Tapestry discussed between myself and @gozer in messages. I believe it is worth trying out.

This definitely means that I’m going to be a stickler about proper claiming format, especially if more than one person claims an item.

Thoughts?

I think it’s a great idea! This will definitely help with shipping costs if we are able to combine orders together.

My only question is about requesting immediate shipment. That would put it on the sender to spend more. Can you give me a scenario when someone should be able to do that? I just want to make sure people aren’t requesting that and people are stuck sending everything right away.

In my life I’ve only requested immediate shipment if it’s a birthday present or I needed it for a trip.

I think this would happen on the sender’s side if they were going out of town and needed to send before the appointed date.

So, let’s cross out the receiver asking for it sooner and put in that if the sender can’t make the ship date, they will need to send before it gets to that date.
Does that sound good?

I think this might work! (It will be hard for me because I like to ship things as soon as possible, but hopefully my bank account will appreciate it more, lol.)

I’m good with crossing out the buyer requesting seller send sooner piece.

Because most of our changes are aimed at helping sellers with shipping costs (and keeping the points economy flowing while doing that) I’d suggest the rule is just that the seller has to ship by the next designated ship date or earlier. If the seller wants to send immediately and potentially have to send to that same buyer multiple times before the next official ship date, they’re welcome to do so. And if they need to send early because they will be gone or a designated ship date won’t work for them, that’s fine as well.

One thing I did think about but not include: is there a grace period for claims within a day or two of a designated ship date?

Example: next ship date is 9/15. Gozer claims from my shop for the first time on 9/14 and I have no other boxes I need to send on 9/15. Do I still need to send on 9/15 to Gozer? Or is there a 1-2 day grace period and that claim rolls over to the next shipping period or (because it falls in that grace period) seller has X-number of days extra to send that one package because of when the claim happened?

For simplicity’s sake, I’m thinking the required date is probably still 9/15. But maybe we could allow a seller to send a day or two later (as long as they notify us that’s happening) in edge cases like that if needed.

Or am I over-thinking things?

I think these additional rules are pretty great!

These new rules will help alleviate some of the issues, I believe! I feel a LOT better about these proposed changes!

Maybe just include the buffer in the ship date?
E.g. “All items claimed by 9/12 must ship by 9/15”

This is what I was thinking as well. That way we can kinda plan on ship dates ahead of time with a little time to pack things too.

@Tapestry Excellent point!
@saintcady @Mountains_and_Clouds Yes, I think that is a good way to do it with the two day leeway.

Also,
I don’t want anyone to feel bad about claiming towards the end, it’s just the nature of how this swap is going to be.

Whoa!! That’s really neat! I’ve never gotten into Goodreads or anything online (except for the library’s summer reading stuff, and even then, it’s hard to remember to log them), but I feel like something like this is SO MUCH BETTER and more likely to be used by people like me!

I did my libraries reading challenge this summer. It was fun. I got a mug. :books: :hot_beverage:
