Sunrise, sunset. Sunrise, sunset

…and day and night. I made a set of placemats for the Sew Scrappy swap featuring a whole day cycle. I call it painting with fabric or fabric collage.
I grab my scrap bins and start tearing and layering up fabric for the sky. I then machine stitch all over and then add the next feature in the landscape. Stitch again and keep going. I do draw out the size and major features on a piece of muslin to keep me on track. Sometimes I will add yarn, netting, lace or beads.
Then I added fabric to placemat size, sandwich, and quilt and finish like usual. This time I used a thrifted cotton quilt for the backing.
The amazing part is that it really doesn’t use up that much scrap and my craft room looks like a hurricane hit when I am done.
Can you find the farmhouse, the owl, the city, and the flying birds?

Seriously guys, pictures - even good pictures - don’t do them justice. They are even more stunning in person. I want to invite people over just to show them off more!

Thank you @marionberries!

These are amazing! They look soooooooo good, like small works of art. I could stare at them for hours searching out each tiny, immaculate detail.

It’s hard when you are looking through scraps and stacks of fabric for just the right gray or yellow. I keep tiny scraps in a bin. Small scraps in shallow box lids, fat quarters in boxes, larger pieces on shelves and some yardage in large bins. I buy fat quarters on sale to keep a variety of colors like a 132 box of crayons! It’s a bit insane. And then sometimes I can’t find just the right shade.
And then it all has to be put away and swept up . :stuck_out_tongue:
And I love it. But I really have to be inspired or have a swap or themed show to go through the craziness. Give me a simple quilt square in the meantime.

This are stunning! It would be hard to eat dinner with them… for fear of protecting them, sure, but mostly because I would want to set my plate aside to explore each of them night after night.

Could this have something to do with you having nowhere to store your A/C units in the off-season?

Your landscapes are breathtaking. I love that you hid little objects in there. I can’t pick a favorite. They are all amazing.
