Sweet-Spooky Pillowcases for a Spooky-Sweet Kid

My kiddo is a funny creature. She loves Halloween and all things Spooky, but at the same time, she adores pink, and wants everything to have a heart on it because, and I quote “Mama, I love LOVE!”. Her current favorite pajamas are a set with old-school Care Bears on them that my mom found at Goodwill. If they’re clean, she’s wearing them. But, just like the residents of Halloween Town, she wants Christmas to be scary. :woman_shrugging:

She’s currently in a toddler bed (converted from a crib). Since crib sheets don’t come with pillowcases, we don’t have any matching ones. So I decided to make a few for her bed, that are just for her. Plus it was something I could craft for Christmas, in my effort to give her something handmade each year.

I used the burrito method, and they went together so fast. All the fabrics came from Michael’s. Old-school Care Bears in a soft pink, with a deep pink border of scribbled hearts, and Nightmare Before Christmas. I did end up topstitching down the decorative narrow band, because she’s 3, and I didn’t want to find Cheerio’s tucked in there. I can totally see making more of these as she grows up, and her interests change.

The pillow cases are great!!! It makes me so happy to see the old school care bears! :sob: And that the young kids like them! I don’t like the revamp they did that makes them way less cute. I recently thrifted a whole fleet of old stuffies and I love them so much.

I totally get your kid being a spooky-cute kid! I am that way as well. I will mix kawaii with goth and monsters constantly. Not as a super young kid, as I was afraid of everything, but once I was old enough to stop being scared of like, a pirate on Barney, I got into spooky stuff! Give your kiddo a hug for me from a fellow kawaii spook! :joy: I love it!

So cute and so useful! I know she’s going to grow up understanding the specialness of having handmade, custom things. I love the burrito method and I think it’s so smart to sew down that contrast band! Even if cherrio stashing is not an issue, that piece makes it a requirement to iron these, even if they come out of the dryer promptly and nearly wrinkle-free.
