Participation Trophy Entry

I made this scrappy American flag for my friend. I was especially excited to use up a ton of awful, scratchy, stiff vintage lace. It reminds me of the tights with the rows of lace on the butt that I wore to church as a kid.

I had high hopes of finding my scrappy quilt top, which was packed in a box from the move, and getting it finished in time. But though I DID find the quilt top, I’ve got so many things going on over the next two weeks, I’m not sure I could get a quilt done in that time. BUT… I might have come up with a good idea for my quilt scraps… Just gotta do another prayer flag first, like a responsible swapper! Then on to this challenge…

Quilting produces copious piles of fabric and batting scraps, and I have a hard time discarding anything over an inch. But, it’ll be a while before I’m up to making another large scrap project. The strangest thing about making quilts is that no matter how much scrap busting you do, the mountain of scraps is never any smaller. This is an improv style quilt, I like this style, but it can look really busy. So my “rules” for this kind of quilt is to use a fairly limited palette of colors and to use plenty of sashing to give the eyes a place to rest. I have a scrappy quilt that is on hold due to my sewing machine not stepping up to the challenge. It’s just not feeding heavier items well. So it won’t make the deadline.

But then I realized that my crazy crocheted basket marathon was a scrappy project. I two bins of wool, cotton, acryic, unknown origin, and fancy yarn. I now have just a vit left and 14 baskets to donate to our church holiday fair.

I’ve posted a few previous baskets but then it got silly. I just finished the 14th! And final basket. My stash is almost eliminated and I am left with small balls of yarn for specialty use. Spirit dolls, embellishments on swap items, etc. If I start a larger project I will purchase as needed. That’s an extra two bins for other storage. Final pics. Useless Scraps to Useful Crafts - Talk Scrappy to Me Challenge Entry

[IMG_0018] After making 16 quilt blocks from a bundle of hand dyed fat quarters, I had a pile of scraps leftover. I did a bit of playing and turned them into crumb blocks.
