Tatted Block Square

I’ve recently gotten back into tatting and decided to make a square block because it’s such a dainty pattern.

I used the pattern at: Square Block

I used trans flag colours because I’m going to give it (or whatever I use it for, as it’s too small to be anything but a pretty object right now) to a special trans woman in my life. Pink corners because I didn’t want the most noticeable colour to be blue.

This is also my first time doing 3-shuttle tatting! I didn’t really process that until during the project. It honestly looks better than if I’d used only 2 as I could use whichever thread wasn’t active in the most recent ring or chain to tighten chain stitches without affecting the stitches’ ability to lay flat. For comparison, this is my first full attempt at the pattern:

Wow! So beautiful. My step mother used to tat lace many years ago. I’m so intrigued by the process.

It looks lovely and you have a great balance of pink, blue, and white in that little square. I’m sure your friend will love it!

Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like it and always happy to share, I know from experience tatting patterns can be a little obscure and take a LOT of digging to find online

Really lovely, I’m so glad you shared this! My mom does quite a bit of tatting so I’m always happy to see other folks also doing it out in the wider world, your square block is so pretty, well done!

And welcome! :sparkling_heart:

This is lovely. Tatting seems to be almost a lost art. It’s wonderful to see it here!

Thank you so much!

That is gorgeous! I learned to tat once on a flight from Dallas to Philadelphia but I haven’t done any since then. I do hope to get to it someday :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:. I cannot even wrap my head around the idea of three-shuttle tatting!

Do you know about the Antique Pattern Library? Quite a few tatting patterns can be found there.
