Teeny Tiny Colored Pencils with Tutorial & Lotsa Pics

I am planning out an art history… shrine? on a book shelf with plans to make miniature scenes and items that have to do with artists and art history stories that appeal to me. I remember stories better when I make something that has to do with them. So, looking up ideas for miniatures to set the scene, I found a tutorial for miniature colored pencils and very loosely followed it.

I broke round toothpicks in half and sanded the broken end down.

Then I painted them with watercolor paint and covered the pencil wrap part with glossy mod podge. Tricky as the color wanted to get mixed up in that.

For the cup, I cut the end off of a plastic bead tube, sanded it, glued a nut (used E6000 adhesive) to the bottom for weight to keep it from falling over, then covered in brown packing paper and glossy mod podge, then trimmed in suede cord glued on with mod podge. Voila!

Very cool!!! I’ve done similar miniature colored pencils but I think you definitely took it a step further than I did. Love it!

Oh no, what did I do that was “further”? My mom saw this project and called me “fabulously weird”!

These are so tiny and cute. I love that they look like they have been used a bit. It makes me think a tiny creature has been creative lately.

Thank you! I forgot to mention the step where the paint would go further than intended and I had to sand it off the tips… But the used pencil effect from that looked good!

I was less careful… I did not mod podge mine! I’m impressed with that extra step.
