I have been collecting random things I find on the ground. I have a box of “industrial items” along with nature curiosities in a different box. There’s lots of boxes full of random crap I find. So I made a necklace to display some of my cool stuff IE: an old rusty chain? Lol.
So I found this rusty old chain in the woods. The key is from my mom who gave me a bunch of old bank keys. They’re like for safety deposit boxes. They look kind of art deco inspired? I love it. The medallion thing is an old brooch. I don’t know where I got it, though. I think it’s supposed to be like an ancient Roman soldier but I realized it COULD be a lady in a floral hat. What do you think it is? I ripped the pin part off the back of it. The smaller chain is from my stash of chains for jewelry. I think it turned out pretty cool!
I ALWAYS thought it was a soldier!! I’m going to assume soldier since I think that’s much more interesting.
Lol all the boxes I have this stuff in are weird too. Usually I keep my craft supplies in plastic bins but these are all in old tins or wooden boxes. I have one wooden box filled with feathers. Another is pressed flowers. Another is dried insects. Another is bark and lichen. Lol I don’t know what I’m doing. I can’t help it! At least now I get to display some of the things I’m hoarding.
I totally do this too. Weird fishing lures, rusty chains, random pieces of cheap jewelry, and… dead butterflies. My recent creation for the Positive Affirmations swap utilized my magpie collection a bit. Now you got me thinking about jewelry… And I keep mine in weird ceramic bowls. One bowl is actually an orchid pot and another is actually a yarn bowl…
There must be something in our DNA that drives the collection urge.
What a cool use of random things. I also have a collection of random things I find. I separate out the rusty bits and often use them to stain/dye fabric or paper. So be careful that it doesn’t stain your clothes. Maybe it can be sealed?
