The Blob Monster Cometh

I made a little cryptids drawstring bag as the main item for my partners in the Monster Mystery Swap. But what’s a bag without something in it?

Over in the Nerd Games, one of my bingo squares is 1980s & Shrinky Dinks. So I researched monsters of the 80s. The Blob came out in 1988. It was a pink gelatinous monster that devoured its victims by absorbing them. I’m not sure if D&D’s gelatinous cube came first or The Blob, but somebody’s got grounds to yell.

I decided to make a Blob magnet for my partners. Sadly I didn’t get any good pics.

My blobs started out as a loose sketch.

I used alcohol markers, ink pen, and white gel pen to bring it to life.

Next I scanned my drawing and printed it on inkjet shrink plastic at 50% opacity, then baked them for 4 minutes.

I glued magnets on the back and used UV Resin to make sure those magnets are permanently fixed in place, and protected the magnet fronts with their own coat of resin.

All in all, I absolutely love the result and may make a few extra for STS.

This is the cutest blob I’ve ever seen! I was today years old when I found out that they remade the Blob in the 80’s. I grew up watching one made in the 50’s. That’s gotta have at least a few years on D&D, right?

Thank you, @TheMistressT & @Rlynn!

@Wildblue - thank you! I looked it up and the blob wins! It predates D&D by about 20 years.

I love this blob!!! I hope I’m lucky enough to score one in the STS (provided you make more, of course)!

These blobs are really cute. The skeleton inside the blob is gruesomely cute! :joy:

If you decide to make more, would you consider doing a variety of colors?:grin:

These are cute and I was lucky enough to get one. The resin makes them extra sturdy. Anyone who gets one would be lucky. Also, love that little square one!
