The Daisy Bell Collection, Part One

I’ve always had a mild fascination with the song Daisy Bell. For some reason, I find myself humming or singing it randomly. Maybe it’s just catchy? I’m not sure, but it seems to live rent free in my head and has done so for years.

So, it only made sense to me to make a small collection revolving around the song.

I started with this small hair pin.

Then moved to this more medium-sized comb piece.

I have two more pieces planned for this mini-collection, all of which involve daisies in yellow and white, and little bitty bells. Yes, they actually do chime if you move them around.

Bells are actually a normal feature of traditional tsumami kanzashi, often dangling at the ends of sagari (long hanging petals), so this is another example of taking something traditional and giving it a bit of a twist.

Very pretty! I love that bells are part of the ensemble.

The bells add just the right touch of whimsy for these cute flowers.

Love this combo of flowers. I really enjoy daisies. I am super curious to know if someone taught you this or if you learned it by yourself! I feel like this would be something a relative would teach you or you’d have to go to a class. It looks crazy! Though I’m sure it took a long time to get so neat with making these. I haven’t met anyone that does this particular craft.

I started out as self-taught, but after about a decade I took a master class in Tokyo and participated in an international exhibition. I’m now a certified teacher
