The monster crochet cardigan is finished

Be warned, my husband takes awful photos!

For the first time in my life I bought a crochet kit, to make the eastern jewels blanket by Janie Crow, I spent extra on the pattern for this particular colourways. Everyone online says it’s a big task, because with so many colour changes, there are many many many ends to weave in.

I started, mostly working while watching(but not watching) TV in the evenings. Then I saw in t Reddit, someone who had turned it into a cardigan. :star_struck::star_struck: I decided to do that. Thing is there was no actual pattern, just photos, I reached out to the person who posted it, she couldn’t remember what she did and the actual garment was in a different state

So I was on my own, easy peasy(ish) I figured, -insert hollow laugh here-

It was neither easy nor peasy. Plus the person who was modelling in the inspo photo must be about 9 inches shorter and 50lbs lighter than me, so I kept realising I had to make another octagon, and another, and another. All up I made 50% extra octagons, and lots of other elements. I winged the gusset under the arm, and months later (it was in time out for a while) realised it was stupid and there was a better way.

However, one fine day, it was long enough and the sleeves were long enough and it was just winging a border. (Only about 400hours later)

Today it had it’s first outing. I’m considering lining it, at the very least I will sew tape into the shoulders to prevent it from stretching too much. I love it!

The photos are weird, in real life the pink does not pop like that, it’s bright, but they all tone together

It is absolutely magical and perfect for you, I love it! So very happy you got it done, what a relief after all that time & hard work. The photos are just grand, you look amazing.
Please show your piecing solution?

This is the sleeve,

Showing the gusset in the arm pit, it’s hard to see because of the stretch, but a square and two half square triangles perfectly fitted the space between the octagons on the sleeve and the body

The ends of the sleeves were made level by infilling with triangles and then a border

You finished it! it’s amazing and I hope you get to showboat it often- it needs to hear the adoration of its fans all Fall/winter long.

May I also suggest that you put in a label of some kind. For posterity, yes, but also to prove its yours when someone’s, ahem, grabby hands get grabby.

The last time we chatted about it there was talk of giving it away, I’m not even kidding. Can you imagine? I hope Edel has changed her mind about that because… well, BECAUSE!

You must have hallucinated that conversation, that is never ever being given away! I mean I may have been threatening it so that it would behave

@AntBee a label is a really good idea.

It is a great idea…

I left a favorite hand knitted hat at a clothing store and thought it was lost forever. But, when I left, I saw a woman wearing it and basically just ran over and snatched it off her head and thanked her for finding my hat…if she had pressed it, the only way I would have been able to prove it was to show the picture from online (the old site!)…now I put labels in everything!

I swear you said it, might have been the Sudbury chat. You were so over it, lol. It’s that thing where you think you just can’t go on anymore right before the final push. Then, you’re done! And it’s fabulous and you love it
