My first solo art exhibition is coming up in September, it’s in a local coffee shop, they have never had art exhibitions there before, but I convinced them that it was a good idea. There is a surprising amount of room for a small space. Most of the work is new, but my medusa painting from last year will have pride of place. I wanted something else that was representational and that I felt I could be proud of.
Our town has an annual horse fair that dates back to early 1700, and my exhibition will be up for the fair. So I figured horses would be a good plan
Turns out horses are extremely difficult to paint-despite my pony mad teenage years-i never had a pony, just read a lot of books.
This painting had many sessions in time out. My husband and daughter helpfully suggested a number of times that I give up on it.
But finally is arrived at a place that I’m happy to show it. It is not perfect, I see flaws, but it’s as good as it’s going to get given my current skill levels.
These are some details, paint seems patchy, but that’s because it hasn’t been varnished yet, once it has it will look better, as the blacks will deepen and the colours even out. Oil paints take ages to dry, so I can’t varnish yet.
