I recently had occasion to make a set of thank you cards and thought I’d share. I usually have to moodle (aka think awhile & fiddle-fart) before I start in on something, but not this time. I knew exactly how I wanted them to look - refreshing!
A first attempt, although nice wasn’t what I’d hoped for so I started again and it was smooth sailing.
I wanted the ink blended sunset to expand beyond the borders of this die plate and I deckle cut each side. For the ink blending I used Distress Oxides in Abandoned Coral, Mustard Seed, Seedless Preserve, Villainous Potion and Uncharted Mariner. Watered down white acrylic made a great starry spatter, and if you dry it quick, it doesn’t have time to absorb much color from the oxides.
I also deckle edged the front right side of the card about 1/4” shorter than the back for a little more detail then hit that edge with a pouncing of Distress Ink (not Oxide) in Gathered Twigs, as I also did with the sunset piece.
The wildflower die-cut is glued directly to the ink blended sunset, then that was mounted on foam tape for a little bit of lift & dimension.
Absolutely gorgeous. The deckled edge with distress ink looks burned which is a beautiful effect and you didn’t risk turing your cards to ash to get it .
These are stunning! The blanket you are snuggling with also reminds me of the tie dyed sheets of my middle school bedroom and I was instantly transported back. I wish I still had them!
For sure! And I’ve done that too - you look away for one second and the paper burns too much, or keeps burning after you thought you pinched it out - ugh. I’ve wrecked pieces with that method many a time. Love the look, but not always the risk. I found a great deal on the Tim Holtz Deckle Trimmer on eBay a few months ago and sprung for it, I use it A LOT. I love those edgy bits.
