For the Sculpture Swap my partner, @panda, was gloriously open to whatever I wanted to make. I was torn between a paper mache Scrub Jay or a weird sea goblin that popped into my head. The scrub jay would be lighter (important when sending internationally)…but I had this block of glow-in-the-dark Cosclay that I’d been sitting on for a year. I’d never used Cosclay and the entire point of the Sculpture Swap was to try something new…and this little weirdo is the result.
I love this sooooo much! Your sketch is incredible too. It’s so darned cute!
How did you like the clay? I am curious how I would feel about it still be flexible after curing. It sounds weird. But you obviously got the hang of it super quick. I hope we see more sculptures from you. You obviously have an amazing talent for it!

Very imaginative! I thought the illustrated page came from a children’s book…what a clever use of AI
@Manders - thank you! I have no darn idea as far as inspiration goes. I knew I wanted a monster. I thought something sea-related would be cool, and then that guy was on the page. The whale aspect was intentional, the chicken legs and Porg-like face were not. BUT his coloring was inspired by sea slugs. I would love to make some little sculpts and figures for STS if I have time this year. My store is always art heavy and light on figures and 3d items. Maybe this year I can switch that up.
@gozer - thank you! I really like the cosclay. It’s SO much less fragile than traditional polymer clay for fine details and I definitely want to make some things to test those limits. Like at what width will it snap…how flexible IS it? I wasn’t brave enough to try repositioning the tidewaddle’s wings, but supposedly they should be fine to bend and flex.
Omg so cool to see your progress pics.. I love the knobby chicken legs - such attention to detail.

The glow before paint is incredible!! I also wondered how you made the legs adjustable, cosclay sounds pretty awesome I’m going to have to try it one day.
