Two carved Lei Vases

A lot of pottery people here like to make lei vases (for single flowers you might find on the ground, etc.) I’ve always avoided making them before, but I finally jumped on the lei vase train…

Below are two of my favorites:

These are wheel-thrown and then hand-carved. It’s a high-fire slightly grey-ish porcelain clay body.

Cat theme! I carved little cats into the design on this one all around the outside.

And this one is heart-shaped with little hearts carved into the design on the outside.

Thanks for looking! 🩵

Your carving work is gorgeous! I’ve never heard of such vases, but I love the idea and I love both of these vases you’ve created. I’m so glad you did jump in the lei vase train so we can all enjoy seeing these lovely works of art!

Stunningly beautiful! I’ve never heard of a lei vase before. I’ll have to Google it so I can see what they look like with flowers. Such a great idea!

Thanks so much!

@Tapestry I can try to get some photos with flowers. Yesterday was SUPER rainy, so I mostly stayed inside, heehee.

@TheMistressT Im not sure if there’s possibly another name for them, but that’s what everyone calls them in Hawaii.

Thank you so much, everyone!

I went out and found some plumerias on the ground to get some “action shots.” They’re fun because they can be a centerpiece or whatever by themselves, but can also have just a flower or two, or be full of them!

Gorgeous! Love the concept (new to me!) and of course your execution is quirky perfection (love the cats!).

Wow! I’m impressed. I tried throwing on the wheel some time back, but I wasn’t very good at it. I like these vases.

Thank you again, everyone!!

**also me over here realizing that it’s now autumn for a lot of you, so this probably seems out of place compared to the northern hemisphere seasonal trends….
