Ugly Christmas Frankensweater

Every year we have an Ugly Sweater Contest at school, and one of my co-workers asked if I could make her a “Frankensweater” that was pieced together from sweaters that she bought on clearance last year. I thought I’d just be cutting them apart and sewing the pieces back together, but because it was only two child-sized sweaters that she gave me, I ended up cutting the sweaters up, harvesting the pieces and attaching them to a black shirt. And, because I couldn’t find the power cord to my sewing machine, I had to hot glue it all.

The original sweaters:

My friend said, “You actually made it cute!” And, it actually came out nicer than I expected. I was pretty impressed with myself at how well I matched up the “tree” on the front, considering I pieced together the two sleeves using hot glue.

Besides the shirt, the only thing not from the original sweaters was the gold rick rack.

And, while it didn’t win for “Best Homemade Sweater,” it was good enough! And, if it doesn’t completely fall apart before next year (I seriously should have bought some fray check), I can add to it!

It actually is cute!

I like how you were able to use what she gave you and yet make it wearable for her!

Thank you, AIMR!

It would have been a little more polished (and probably long-lasting) if I had sewn the pieces on, but it all worked out in the end!

What a cool idea and you executed it so well! It is actually cute! I think the hot glue kind of makes it more in the spirit of the “ugly holiday sweater,” too.

Using the sleeves for a tree was creative. You were robbed of the prize for best homemade.

Thanks, everyone!

And, we voted via a list of photos in an online form. It only showed the front, I think. The art teacher’s entry was awesome, but not really a sweater. More like a sculpture. But, there’s always next year!

This is cool! Using the sleeves that way was brilliant!

And, there’s always next year to wind that prize! :trophy:

Thank you! I had a vision, and it came out pretty close to what I envisioned. I wish I had more to work with, so hopefully she gets more sweaters!
