Agreed! I always pulled the elastic a bit around curves to snug them up a bit.
The fold over elastic I’d pin or clip in place & sew once with a regular zigzag, regular thread.
I have not sewn the foldover elastic just once so this is new to me. Hmm…not sure if I can change my method at this point but whatever works!
I found more than 1 pass of stitching creates too much wobbly stretch, if that makes sense?
I do it the same way as @Magpie
Works perfectly.
Also, stretch the elastic a bit as you clip or pin it to the fabric.
Good tips! I’ll definitely try sewing it in one pass next time. I think if I stretched the elastic slightly then the leg holes would be more tight than I’d like so I need to research how to adjust that.
I’m going to try both ways.
This tutorial is how I learned but that ways years ago, like in the 70’s. There are so many hacks and faster ways now!
You could try sticking it a bit with glue stick too, works for quilting but can gum needled so just a light touch.
I also sew it in one go with a zigzag stitch. Never tried any other way.
I just found an other pattern that I like:
I prefer bralettes over bras and I like that it has a padded option.
I need to sort through all the patterns I already own first.
I will take pictures of my stock and post them here. But I need to finish a formal dress next week. So now bra sewing adventures before that.
I finished my first pair and while they’re ok, I think I want to make significant changes to the shape after looking at the fit and a pair of my existing underwear.
Something more like this (which will require me to also modify the other pattern pieces).
I’ll probably try to trace a pair of my existing underwear but I feel like this is much closer in shape.
