One of my coworkers put out a call for Ipsy bags. She fills them with feminine supplies for girls to come in and discreetly grab. When I realized that they were just basic lined zipper pouches, I offered to make her a few. School ended before I got to it, but here are the first two. They are made from a pair of thrifted men’s jeans and a thrifted floral skirt. The zippers are from a multi-zipper pencil pouch that I disassembled. I was able to cut enough fabric to make 8 pouches all together. I’ll be sure to get the rest done by the time school starts!
They always seem to look wonky when I take pics too. Must be the camera angles. These are such a nice thing to do for the students and I like the colored zippers.
Thanks, @gozer! I have so many zippers left from the pencil cases that I can keep her supplied for a while!

I did not realize that schools did not provide feminine products in the restrooms! I went to school in Panama and all sorts of products are available. You do have to pick up chips to use the machines, but they start you out with two and can be picked up anytime in the nurses office.
Is this a common thing in most high schools? I wonder if our local high school has some sort of program like this. Who would run it…is it individual teachers? I love making pouches. I assume the young women get to keep the pouches?
They do have them in the nurses office, but it can be intimidating for some girls to ask. I don’t think they have supplies in the bathrooms because of rampant vandalism. We don’t have them in the staff bathrooms, either. My co-worker is finally able to order supplies through Amazon, with a school purchase order, so she doesn’t have to buy them herself.
But now you’ve got me thinking… She does this for 8th graders. Maybe we can set it up for the other grades too.
What a great project your coworking is doing and what a great contribution you’re making! It would be awesome if the other grades could have one, too.
@AIMR We had machines in the restrooms at junior high and high school when I was a kid, but I don’t think anyone every used them. I am pretty sure there were not chips, you had to pay and they also only had one supply: giant, bulky, cheap pads. Of course, pads didn’t have nearly the material technology they do now, but they didn’t have tampons as an option, either.

No vandalism in my school because the punishment would have been to be sent back to the USA.
Anyway, I am going to see if I can inquire at our high school if they have such a program. I am sort of bored with making hats for charity.
