(I’m not sure on category for this one, so apologies to modmins, and feel free to move it!)
This season of the Nerd Games has been extra fun, as we’ve been thinking about different decades… my brain tends to get stuck on rhe '80s. Maybe it’s because I’m an 80s kid. Maybe it’s because I like neon. I dunno.
Anyway, there is a BINGO bonus challenge, and I’ve been having thoughts of things I wanted to make for my entire '80’s column for a while, and this was one of them!
The challenge square requires something inspired by the 80s and technically is suppsed to utilize plastic canvas. When I think of plastic canvas, I think of those little guys we used to make to hold a single Hershey’s Kiss. I’ve been trying really hard to not buy new craft/art supplies this year, so I don’t have plastic canvas, BUT it has also caused me to become a little bit more of a pack rat, and I DO have a few of the mylar “freshness” seals from cans of coffee. ![]()
So I present to you this mylar Kiss’n-Critter-inspired neon weirdo.
I cut three 2-inch squares of the mylar and sewed them together the same way, just with a needle and fluorescent embroidery thread. (I also continued the stitch around all the edges for continuity.)
I painted his face (and a secret message inside) with acrylic paint. Beware of zooming in (can you read it?)…
Also, because it’s fluroescent paint and thread, he loves UV light, heehee.
I didn’t have any chocolate kisses, but I gave him a Dum-Dum so he can smoke wherever he wants, also just like the '80’s!
