I made this drawing today with my brandnew watercolor pencils…The Title is :
VERMALEDIJDE SERPENTEN…
IK RIJG U AAN MEN DEGEN…
HAK U AAN MOOTJES
EN STUUR U TERUG NAAR UW VERDOMMENIS.
It is very difficult to translate becos it is a part of medievel language+ interpretations of comicbookfigures…So if I translate it it would kind of loose it’s meaning…So pardon me if I can’t trnslate it…
I saw the title, and I was like, what is this?? We should absolutely bring back some of these medieval insults. Vermaledijde serpenten, I know a few of those …
Your artwork is a good representation of the title though!
Yep indeed…and it is very hard to transalate that way cos then it’s getting too mean or to obvious…The rest of the title is inspired by curses of Captain Hadock of Kuifje and Tuizendfloot van Nero…Very difficult to translate…But I hope people like the work on itself…Thanks for the comment
I was curious so I put it through google translate, I know it doesn’t keep its full meaning but it does help me understand the drawing now! Totally does fit!
for our English speaking people it loosely translates to:
DAMNED SERPENTS…
I ADDRESS YOU…
CHOP YOURSELF
AND SEND YOU BACK TO YOUR DAMNATION.
Translation is pretty good, except for the second sentence (but the word “degen” is quite old-fashioned) - “ik rijg u aan mijn degen” means something like “i will skewer you unto my sword”. It’s a pretty scary threat for that snake!
Yep indeed…here we have it…I knew somebody would come with the word degen in comparisment of the sword.Yep indeed
.it is more a sword I am holding on the drawing…a degen is more like Errol Flyn…But aan de degen rijgen is impossible with a sword…just as chopping in pieces is impossible with a degen…So yes …It’s rather compicated…
