I’ve been wanting to make a tote bag to carry around my cross stitch kit instead of using the random freebie one I have. Last weekend we were at an antique shop and they had sooo many of these calendar tea towels. I showed restraint and only bought one. (But I think I’ll be going back for more…)
I debated back and forth whether I’d cut it in half so the other side would be right side up. I decided against it because the hemming and seam allowances would have shortened it too much. I like how it’s upside down because you can tell it was once a whole towel. The back…
No pattern used because I am such an amazing, well seasoned seamstress. (Complete sarcasm. I had to rip out the top stitches because my needle broke and I put the new one in backward. Also, don’t you dare look at any stitching close up. )
I love how this turned out. The light green lining was a great choice!

You did a great job! I applaud your choice not to cut the towel. I love using old tea towels but losing parts of them to seams always annoys me so I also like leaving them whole if I can. They can tell a story!
1988 was a Leap Year, so you would have had to wait until 2044 or 2072 to use it as a calendar anyway! The design is pretty for your cross stitch supplies and projects!
