Weather-tolerant Wreath Hangers That Won't Mar Our Surfaces

When I was making these Winter Wreaths For Our New Deck, I wanted to be sure I could hang them without scuffing or scratching our deck rail or the gate. I thought I would end up using some kind of padded ties for vines and that they would end up being green… if I was able to find them in around here November. But when I was picking up some plastic ball ornaments at the dollar store, I happened to find myself in the craft section (how odd!) and spotted these wooden bead wreaths/rings.

I thought I could take them apart/modify them to suit my purpose and picked up two.

I opened the loop on one end, took off several beads, measured my deck rail and cut the wire with enough left to make a hook to go into the loop on the other end.

I was tempted to stain and/or varnish the beads, but I knew that would risk them marring my rail and gate. Raw wood would be much better and the beads ability to roll on the wire would hopefully make the whole thing move over rather than dig in and scratch. A friend pointed out that they would grey over time and that would match the deck even better. Oh, yeah!

And the wire the beads came on seems thick enough to hold it’s shape pretty well and hold a pretty big wreath or other decoration. I expect to use these for other seasonal decorations, as well.

I was able to make both hangers with one of the wreaths, so I have another to do whatever with and even a few beads left over for other projects.
