Tried out wet felting!!
I’ve done some needle felting over the past few months and i’ve made basically everything I want for now, so I decided it might be fun to try out wet felting! I already have a stash of wool that I couldn’t made a dent in by just needle felting anyways ![]()
I laid out my design in thin layers of merino roving in a circular shape. Because the staple length of the wool was pretty long my flower ended up huge!! (Not that I mind) It did shrink a bit by the end though. I used a very dark blue, a teal, light blue, and caramel colored wool in my design.
I didn’t take a lot of pictures of the process (whoops) but I layered a mesh type fabric on top (so my design wouldn’t move) and agitated the wool with my hands + soap and water. It was a lot easier than I thought because the flower isn’t meant to be a super stiff flat sheet
After a lot of rubbing and rolling I cut along the caramel lines to create petals. I continued rolling the flower until it looked how I wanted!
I wet felted a stem too, but it ended up really short and tapered off at the end so I worked around it and curled it to make it look intentional LOL. I tried wet felting it on the back with soap and water but since the flower was basically dry it would not stick, so I ended up using a felting needle to attach it dry!
Overall super cool process and I learned a ton ![]()
