A while back I found this wonderful fabric that reminded me of snowflakes and has a wonderful soft inside. I’ve been working on it on and off for the past 2 years or so and finally finished it this week.
Just in time to have a cozy but cute dress for New Year’s Eve.
It was perfect for NYE! The night was pretty cold and extremely windy. I even made good use of the hood when we were outside to shoot some fireworks.

Getting back to the cold weather made me realize how so many clothes for women don’t seem to be as functional as clothes for men.
I find that having pockets and a hood and heavy fabrics in nice dresses would be very handy! This is also a lovely mix of fabrics. You did a wonderful job turning your vision into reality.
@AIMR you’re absolutely right, it’s almost impossible to find clothes that are pretty and functional. I bike and hike a lot but I am no fan of pants and shorts. For the warmer seasons I got lucky and found a wonderful hiking skirt a couple of years ago. Since then I bought 6 of the same style in different colors and patterns. For the winter I mostly go back to making my own clothes.
Today I spent the day in the snow sledding and building snowmen with my daughter. The hood of the dress was absolutely wonderful.
I have some leftover fabric and decided to turn it into a dress for my daughter:
I always liked hoods as a design feature but I think this is the first hoodie where I use it a lot for its actual purpose. It quickly became my favorite dress over the past week.
