With A Cluck, Cluck Here

I created this watercolor chicken for @Rlynn’s kiddo in the Ongoing Wish Swap. Rather than my usually heavy watercolor method, I went with several washes before adding detail and painted wet-on-wet. I’m reasonably happy with the outcome (though the flowers could have been better for sure). I really like the watercolor blends and colorplay on Ms. Chick. I also didn’t tape the image down before painting but tried wetting both the front and back of the paper at the start…surprisingly that worked and I only had a tiny bit of curl in the detail phase.

You do some amazing art! This makes me miss my chicken Phoenix. This looks a lot like her. She was a big time cuddler.

@Rlynn - I’m so glad Elliott likes it!

@bunny1kenobi- thank you! Phoenix sounds awesome. Now I’m picturing chicken cuddles and how adorable that must have been.

She was a sweet girl. Chickens will be in our future again but probably not until we retire and move out to the family farm.

I’m glad you posted a separate thread for your chicken. He’s awesome.
Also, wet front and back is a technique I’ve never tried with watercolor! I think it’s really cool that it worked out

Thank you, @endymion, @Mountains_and_Clouds!

@Manders, thanks! If you wet both sides fully it keeps the paper flat while you’re painting. It’s a hack I saw on Youtube and didn’t give much credence, but it does actually work.

Love the way she seems to be looking down her nose. She’s definitely Queen of her roost.
