I made this for @Cindy in the Ongoing Ornament Swap.
A while back, I got a stack of wood veneer samples at my local creative reuse store. They each had a thin layer of a different kind of wood, on a paper backing. I cut out three large hearts with heart-shaped holes in the middle, and punched out two small hearts.
I made sure the grain was running in different directions on the larger pieces, so the ornament would be sturdier.
I used wood glue to laminate everything together, then sanded the edges. Applied a sealer and then painted the edges of the larger heart gold.
Because the wood veneer samples were all different, the front and back of the ornament are not the same.
I was pleased; the ornament turned out just as I’d envisioned it.
