My New Year’s resolution has been to use up all my craft supplies and so far I have been making good progress on that. When we moved at the beginning of this year, I finally got all my craft stuff out of storage. I was able to go through it all and organize it a little better, so I know what I have. I didn’t realize my vintage sewing pattern collection had gotten so large!
March Themes
Finished yarn! by Andrea Black, on Flickr
Color: Brown
For: Your House
Pattern: Shiny
Challenge 1: Go back to a project you’ve given up on.
Challenge 2: Look over your craft books/print patterns. Make something from one of them or see if there’s any you want to move on.
I feel like I managed a decent “non-stashing” this week! Last week, I bought fabric and zippers to make a new crate pad and covers for Vivienne’s new car crate and over the last two days I actually made them! I also bought just enough fabric to make them, so there’s not much left over. YEY!
I actually unknowingly did Challenge 2 this Sunday March 2nd. I came across a bunch of used art / drawing books and a gifted paint by numbers kit, listed them in a local buy nothing group, and a lady picked them up less than an hour later. Turns out she’s actually a special education art teacher, so that’s an extra bonus.
March progress:
Made two brown hats from some yarn stashed since December 2017.
Used up 91g/300yds. Very little left of this yarn in this colorway, so the rest will end up in a scrappy project later.
I will likely make a couple more hats this month with a different pattern and yarn since I have another brown in one of my bins. But, now I’m going to focus on a baby blanket for a friend.
Love the texture! What pattern is that?
I want to use up more yarn!
It’s the Crown Knit hat by Yarnspirations.com. The pattern is knit flat and then seamed together. I did it in the round because I don’t like seaming. If you want to do the same, drop the 2 selvage stitches and convert the wrong side rows to right side.

It’s a super quick knit. Only a few hours for each one.
Thanks. I have a bunch of navy yarn that I want to destash quickly.
I sent off a box of alcohol markers and colored pencils I wasn’t using to my nieces earlier this week. I’m also planning to pull together another batch of supplies to take to the creative reuse store.
I made a good start at thinning my weaving library and supplies last year (the money was actually enough to pay for my art studio!) but I want to do another round now that it’s getting nicer out. I think I’d like to sell at least one more of my smaller looms and a bunch more books to free up some space.
Having things you no longer need or want out of your space not only frees up your space but also is mentally cleansing! Good that you can pass on for others to try or use!
I finally finished this shawl I had hibernating from the October 2024 De-Stash-along. Used 112g of yarn. Doesn’t seem like much, but it definitely was. More info on its separate post.
It’s been awhile since I did a fiddly, all-stash project. I thought this one was it, but then I remembered that I had to buy the sawtooth hanger. Whomp whomp. But every single other thing was stash material. YEY!
It was also fun to use 10 different die sets.
Doesn’t fit any of the challenges this month but I made a bag for a swap with several elements almost entirely from stash (had to buy one skein of embroidery floss and use a very tiny bit). I also started going through stash to pass some on here.
I just went back to look at the March challenges and I guess my Bigfoot project fits a couple: brown and for my house. There’s like 3-5 shades of brown paper in it. WOO!
The Bigfoot shrine is awesome! Love it and how it functions as a tracker as well.
I forgot to share my big destash win - I finished a Seaglass sweater with ALL stash!
I dyed some scraps black so it’d all blend. Only took me 2 months to do it - sheesh.
Thank you! That sweater is going to be a closet staple forever!
I’m currently struggling with what to do with a bunch of random mixed media/collage/gelli printing/stamp papers and stuff I have. I need to repurpose the shelves they’re sitting on now and don’t want to move it down into my studio. I’m planning to keep the tools and gelli plates but am considering just binning almost everything else. I could move it to another part of the house but I think what I really liked was the making of the “collage fodder”, not the using of it so if I ever decide I want to do it in the future I’m highly unlikely to use anything I currently have stashed.
Sounds perfect for Use It Or Lose It!
omg–please don’t bin your papers! I want to make a junk journal this year and could use more finished papers. I don’t need or want any supplies…just papers to use!
I have framed some of your other pieces so maybe I would frame some more!!
I was having some pre-separation anxiety so I was able to find storage for everything that makes sense.
Some day I’ll actually destash instead of move things around
