2025 DeStash-Along

I get that…I promised some things to people and had a change of heart when it came to actually packing it up…sometimes stash is like an old friend that you just want hanging around, even if it is just in the background…

I finished this baby blanket on Friday, but was sick all weekend, so I washed it today and trimmed the loose ends. Used up 420g/ 766 yds of stash. More info in its own post.

Love the scrappiness!

I had to visit Michaels last night to pick up something for work. I managed to avoid the temptation of the scrapbook paper but did bring home two dot-grid journals. I am paranoid that my favorites will be discontinued and with as decimated as that set of shelves was I didn’t want to take any chances.

I also rearranged some of my shelves so now all of my filled journals are in one cube (without much room to grow, worryingly). I started trying to integrate the box of stickers I acquired last year into my existing sticker storage, and that’s going to be a problem… A problem for another day, ultimately, as the cat decided I was DONE with that particular task.

More March brown hats:

This is Lace Beret by Sara Kay Hartmann

I did not block them into the beret shape. :woman_shrugging:
I used up 20 g / 275 yds that was stashed in July 2020.
Funny story:
As I was outdoors taking my photo this morning, a neighbor was walking by asked how much I sell them for. I told him I just give them away (because I didn’t want to go into the whole shebang about how many hours they take and how I could never sell them for the actual cost of my time). :expressionless:

Lovely hats! I truly appreciate that you share the patterns you are using. I know many of the hats I make are for charity but I enjoy the challenge of knitting or crocheting different patterns even if it does take more time and yarn.

I get it about not selling them…my handyman admired a hat a scarf set I made so I gave them to him to give to his wife. He sent me an invoice for the work he had done on my house…in the low $4,000 range…I texted him back and said ,“What a coincidence! That is the same amount for a one-of-a-kind, personally handmade hat and scarf set!” We both laughed, but yeah…

You’re welcome for the pattern info. I like trying to find a new pattern frequently so that I am continually challenged. I’m pleased to write that I have moved up to the intermediate and advanced level on Yarnspirations (pats self on back).

I tried making that crown hat you posted but wanted to make it in the round. I failed miserably because I kept forgetting that stitches are different in the round. I managed to do a twisted ribbing cuff but wasn’t sure if that was just by sheer luck or not. I then just made a striped stockinette body.

I’ll try that pattern again flat to better understand the stitches…I would love to make it so that the crown is a different color to show up more. I just have to free up more brain space to tackle that one!

Yes, I have to rewrite the WS rows because I can’t do it in my brain on the fly. I was messing up at first because I forgot to read it from the opposite direction when changing knits to purls and vice-versa.
For example, R2 becomes: P2, K2tbl, P1, K1tbl, P1, K2tbl, P1, repeated. You don’t have to Ptbl for purl stitches either.

oh thanks for this!! I was totally confusing myself…I should have just taken more time to write it down since I am a visual learner (words are best for me or a chart!). I might give it another go as soon as I finish my next hat, the February hat. It is a fun knit with a lot of different stitches…and free pattern that I will post when I get done!

Does it count for forgotten supply to frog an old project to reuse the material for a new project?

I was going to donate some knitted shirts that didn’t turn out as I envisioned, but at the last minute decided to frog and reknit them into something else. Can’t let that yarn go to waste!

Made a box card with all stash over the last couple of days! As JoAnn as liquidated, I have gotten quite a bit of paper - I know that most of my card making and other papercrafting in the coming couple years will be made from this stash and I’m kind of excited about it, TBH.

Lovely! I love the house card you made for me. My home did not feel complete until I found it and put it back on display! Can’t wait to see more from this stash throughout the year!

I found a substantial amount of ribbon yarn that I must have purchased in the 90’s? Most still have their labels but I don’t have any idea of what I intended to make, but I think it might have been a ribbon tank top that was probably out of my skill level back then.

Well, not sure if I am into making a ribbon yarn tank top, so I am finding ways to use it up.

First destash…I’ll use up the rest of the ball to make a few more of these for autumn decor.

These are lovely! I wouldn’t have thought to use ribbon yarn for these but it’s actually a perfect choice.

I finished my first Musselburgh hat, that I started a while ago. It’s made from some of the scraps of the Snowman Christmas sweater.

I like it, but Mr. Imma doesn’t  He wears a storebought black beanie all the time and he says this one is uncomfortable. It’s not, so I’ll keep it. The yarn is really soft, and I like that there are two ways (or really four) to wear them. The grey/brown bit is supposed to be the inside but I actually like that side more than I thought I would. The pattern is well-written and easy to follow, although probably not for a novice knitter. There’s a great knitalong video from the designer on YouTube though. I have long hair and I like that the hat is big enough for a ponytail or bun. The yarn (Drops Air) is maybe not ideal for the hat. It’s super soft but also really, really stretchy. I made the smallest adult size, and I don’t have a small head, but it’s still on the big side for me.

Men seem to be much more picky about their hats…I have made several for my husband but he prefers his store bought beanie as well!

I like both sides of your hat…it does look warm being doubled like that!

A lot of handknit hats aren’t actually warm, but this one is! It’s doubled and Drops Air is 100% wool I think. I can see why the Musselburgh pattern is so popular. I’m thinking of adding a bobble but that would mean it’s no longer reversible.

I was looking for my paper circle cutter (still not found) but I did find these paints:

I think these have literally been in my stash since college. The date on the bottle says 2005. I had a plan with them but I forgot. If they haven’t become gross, tomorrow I’ll paint my fibreboard Ikea magazine files with them. I keep my magazines and patterns in them and they’re boring.

Dried acrylic paint can be reactivated by water. If they are not open, they could last 10 years or more. You’ll know once you open them…I periodically throw out bottles because they fade or using water makes them too thin. Craft paint is relatively inexpensive. Do you have any of that lovely wallpaper left that you could use to cover your magazine files?
