2025 DeStash-Along

I did it! Instead of bringing in more stash, I made this dress!

Just needs buttonholes and hemmed. Main fabric was one I brought in without a plan, everything else was “real” stash.

Gotta love it when you can whip up an outfit from your stash! What a lovely print!

So nice! I love that print as well. Using stash is so much more fun than buying stash!

That was time well-spent! It’s really pretty!

I have to tell myself the same thing every time new supplies beckon… There just isn’t time for it all.

Color: Blue
For: Animals
Pattern: Stripes
Supplies: Beads & Buttons
Challenge 1: Make something very small. It may not use up much stash, but small wins are still wins.
Challenge 2: You’ve just finished 6 months of destashing. How does it feel? What goals and plans do you have for the second half of the year?

Late to the game but hope to destash/organize a lot during my summer holidays.

4 bins of fabric
5 boxes of random craft stuff
8 shelves of k-6 teacher stuff to go through

I made a little gift basket for my mom, for mother’s day and some holiday souvenirs. It’s entirely from stash and it used up two 20x16" pieces of fabric, some iron-on interfacing, some batting scraps that I basted together, and most of a piece of bias tape that I think I inherited.

My mom isn’t even retired yet but she strongly believes in Swedish death cleaning, she is always getting rid of stuff. She doesn’t like big gifts. This is all stuff that will be used up quickly, except for the teatowel by a local artist and has a print of a local building that’s significant to her. It’s still a practical thing. The basket can be used to hold things, or she can fill it up again and pass it on to the next person.

Such a great gift thoughtfully done. And pretty!

As for me, I destashed yarn via gifting them as supplies. 3 balls of super chunky yarn that didn’t work out for the planned project and fought me on all back up ideas. Off the list! Along with those 3 I added a full untouched sock yarn left over from a sockalong adventure, a big untouched ball of shiny shawl yarn and a hank of silk lace weight that has had years to whisper its dreams to me and has not. I’m trying to keeo all yarns not in play stored in one cabinet so the real estate is finite. Gotta cull the herd now and then.

Supply gifts to a fellow crafter, that’s a very fast destash and hopefully they will inspire the new owner!

I came across the teatowel months ago and stashed it away for a future gift, then I bought more and more things until I had so many little things that I needed some sort of container for it. I had this fabric basket idea in my head for a while but didn’t get started until yesterday. I was surprised I had so many matching supplies in my stash (but I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised  ).

What really helps is my quilting fabrics (other than specific themes, such as Christmas) are sorted by colour. That sounds fancier than it is, it’s just a pile of ziplock bags in a bin. But it’s easy to pull out the blue bag to see what I’ve got in that colour.

Oh, to have myblues fit in a ziplock bag. I would need a bin sized one and that might not do it. I admit it, l am a fabric hoarder. But I might need that particular shade and pattern of blue!

Lol it really helps that quilting fabric is expensive here, and I didn’t inherit anything. So I typically limit myself to buying what I need, plus maybe some FQ’s or remnants of prints I really like, but not usually. I think I have a yard of this print because it was really, really cheap and I liked it. But my entire stash of quilting fabric fits into one of those Ikea Kallax bins.

Apparel / upholstery fabric though … I don’t buy those “for stash” either, only when I’ve got a plan, but there are piles of scraps, inherited fabric, gifted fabric etc.

Challenge 2: I want to do most of my Christmas gifts from stash this year

Not the best picture but I finished two casserole-sized potholders for Mr. Imma for Christmas, all from stash.

I’ve been hard at work on my July DeStash projects:

14 scrubby washcloths. My MIL had a lot of blue in her stash she gave to me, but I’ve used all of it in this category. Yay! 702 grams / 670.1 yards used. EDIT to add: I just realized I have some stripes.

My little guy’s snood hat that is too big. 34 grams / 92 yards of stash used.
This project is blue, for my pet, and very small. 3 prompts satisfied!

Alright, the rest of my blue yarn projects have been washed. They are ready for the donation bags.
First, washcloths. As opposed to the “scrubby” style completed earlier this month, these are 100% cotton or primarily cotton soft ones:

Total yarn used: 424 grams / 762.7 yards, making 16 washcloths. Yay!

Second, hats. Only two completed this month, as the scrubbies and washcloths were my main focus.

I like the way these look, but I’m not a fan of the pattern. The instructions for the crown shaping are a bit confusing to me. I’ll post the link in the Hats thread if someone wants to check it out.
Amount of yarn used: 173 grams / 318 yards.
