Why on earth are you not allowed desk drawers at work!? I’m in a mood today and this is really giving me WT-actual-F vibes.
Wow, that does sound absolutely ridiculous! No wonder you’re annoyed. Maybe a few well-placed boxes of menstrual products in his view might prompt a rethink. I agree they are not shameful items, but they might shame him into not using some stupid rule to make life more difficult for everyone.
Such a smart way to reuse a loved piece of clothing in a new way. It looks great!
I imagine someone with a pad in her hand stopping by this guy’s desk with a “quick question” while she’s “on her way to the restroom.” Repeatedly. Make him uncomfortable
I made a “Potty Bell” for Vivienne with all stash!
Not a huge dent, but I did use the entirety of a 3" scrap of elastic.
Every little bit counts!
A friend’s daughter wants to learn to crochet, and do I have any yarns I’m not using that maybe I would like to rehome? Hahahahaha
I used restraint and only sent a pound of white acrylic and 2 balls of wool blend with crochet hooks suitable to each. That’s 3 yarns and 2 crochet hooks off the stash cabinet shelves.
Back in the late 80’s someone came up with office designs to make things more efficient and make use of expensive office space. Our accounting office was similar to yours, @Immaculata. The desk space could be used by multiple people since many of us were traveling to clients or working from home. Any personal items had to be cleared everyday…you might not get the same desk even if you were in the office for a long time! Only the most basic of supplies could be left, like a stapler, paper clips, etc. No pens, pencils, notepads…it was so demoralizing that 50% of the staff left, including me!
People spend so much time at work that making it personal is good for morale and mental health. What a shame that this is coming back…ugh…
Women in the office petitioned and got a couch in a private office and also private and secure places to keep personal items. I think the men just got tired of the constant complaints but it worked. Again, what a shame…
In other news, I am destashing some clothing fabric to a member here because I know I won’t be making clothes on a regular enough basis to even make a dent…just have to take the box to UPS!
I love that fabric as well @jemimah and that pretty handbag with such nice embroidery certainly deserves a seperate threat! The fabric actually reminds me a bit of your recognizable style of watercolour.
@AIMR this madness started about 1,5 years ago and we thought it would get less rigid over time, but in fact our building manager is doubling down, because we’re all cutting corners and he’s not happy. He recently walked through the building after hours, and compiled a 20 page PDF with all VIOLATIONS OF POLICY and had our supervisors send it to all staff. Apparantly if we are going to continue with this we are facing CONSEQUENCES.
We have in fact been hot desking for as long as I work here, and there have never been any issues! We typically work on several projects at a time, so one day we might sit with project A people and the next day with project B people. My coworkers aren’t generally messy, but sometiems you’ll find a, pen, a stapler or a mug on a desk. I think it’s actually convenient when people leave pens When we had drawers, we all had a drawer unit but you wouldn’t necessarily always sit at that desk (they also had wheels, but people just walked to their drawer unit when they need something).
We theoretically have a paperless office which means we don’t need office supplies. And we’re not allowed to leave work documents lying around in drawers anyway. We don’t do single use cups anymore, which isn’t a bad idea, but that means we need to bring our own mugs too. Field work coworkers are apparantly also not allowed to leave their uniform coats on the coat rack overnight (this was new information but every single coat in the office was in the PDF file!).
We have our tiny lockers and anything that doesn’t fit, we’re supposed to take home every day. Did I tell you we’re not supposed to drive to work so we all have to carry our stuff on public transit? Also by law we are required to do a lot of things on paper (that we keep in a locked cupboard now) so we actually do need pens and staplers and the like. I think our building manager thinks our tiny lockers work like Mary Poppins’ handbag or something.
I think in theory or building manager could be clueless about the purpose of storage space in a women’s bathroom, so I was thinking of first asking him if we could have the storage thingy for menstruation products back. Maybe this guy just needs it spelled out? I don’t know if a man with a wife and kids can be that clueless, but who knows.
I sort of get it from his point of view. When I was clearing out desks of people who left, I often found tons of pens and pencils, half used notepads, partial eaten snacks, multiple mugs (some with dried tea bags in them…gross)…so yeah, waste and filth can be a source of concern.
I think it is a good idea to bring up the storage for menstrual products as well as disposal…our federal law requires this for 100+ employers and most small businesses do it as well. Some places even provide products for free (schools…)…is there no law in your country? The WHO addressed these concerns several times, so I am surprised more countries are not on board.
It looks so. Cozy! I covet it, but then I covet pretty much everything you make.
Woohoo! It looks lovely and soft, beautiful work!
Finished the basket and started another. Here’s two finished ones
And making quilt squares out of scraps for an orgaization who gives away quilts.
Those look so scrappy and cheery! Making up the quilt squares is the most fun part of the process
Thank you, @jemimah and @AntBee!
Your scrappy squares are so pretty, @marionberries!
Everyone’s projects so far are looking great!
Tonight I spent some time digging through my fabric stash. I have seperate bins for quilting fabric and other fabric. I came across some leftover bits from a sturdy opholstery fabric that I made a curtain out of years ago. I still have about half a yard and I figured that that might be enough to try and make a bag. I’ve only ever made tote bags, but my friend recently made a small backpack and it came out really nice.
I may have bought random yarn today. But, in my defense I was unaccompanied by child or spouse (which almost NEVER happens) so I may have been light-headed with freedom. Haha
That moment deserves some marking!
I am playing some serious yarn chicken with the last ball of yarn I have for this sweater, working on the 2nd sleeve. Going by the rate of yarn used on the first sleeve, I should have enough
