Week 5: I am going to take out one of the kits waiting on the sidelines and force myself to schedule personal time to work on it (instead of constantly giving all my time until I am burnt out). A little February lesson in self care for myself.
I am doing a quilt kit. I just canāt seem to focus on larger projects right now. I am getting a lot of things in my personal life in order, mainly realizing that I am nearly done with my lifelong career. It is a mixed bag of emotions, but mostly good ones!
05 - CROCHET RUSTIC FARMHOUSE HOLIDAY GNOMES
This WIP is a relief to have finished because it was meant as a Christmas gift for my sonās girlfriendās mom! I started the project last November and had the crocheted bit done early, but I couldnāt find those darn wooden noses anywhere in my city until yesterday.
The pattern was found on Pinterest, created by MJs off the hook designs, and was followed pretty closely. Other than the nose and beard, the supplies were taken from the stash.
So cute! I think because of the colors, they could be set out all year! I love them!
I will try and use this prompt to finish the cross-stitch I am working on
I was destashing, until someone offered me their late grandmaās old spinning wheel and everything that came with it ā¦
I havenāt got it yet but Iām excited about learning to spin!
My latest and 9th project was finished today AND it let me cross something off the HOLDOVERS: Priorities list! WOO! Finding and refinishing a desk for TheMisterT.
Except for the modern equipment, this looks like a scene from way back when! Just gorgeous and moody! I bet he will spend many happy moments working/playing at that desk!
Week 5: My Q3 Prize Packs consist of three items each - a large, a medium, and a small item. There are 4 prize packs. I am going to focus finishing the larges first, 1 at a time. Then I am going to work on all 4 medium items together. Then I will work on the smalls - first I will do another sample small to make sure the technique will work, then I will finish all the smalls together. So long as I work on it all consistently they will be done soon - for reals!
@Immaculata Please post photos of those supplies ASAP!!
@TheMistressT It looks great!
Thank you! With all the time I spent up close with that desk, I believe it was built by an accomplished amateur woodworker or perhaps it was an advanced student piece. Itās quite well made, using commonly available lumber and moulding. Based on the design and the hardware, I think it was made in the 1950s or 60s. TheMisterT never does personal computer work at that desk, itās pretty much purely for work, so he will not really be āhappyā there, but he should be comfortable and other than it not looking trashy, that was the goal!
Thanks, @gatheredroots !
Iām doing an overhaul of my winter accessories to make things that really suit my need. Iāve already pulled out a lot of the hats and mittens and scarves that Iāve made previously which are all in good condition so will be donated. I just never ended up using them often because they ended up being too warm, too thick, not warm enough, not thick enough, doesnāt allow me access to use my cell phone without difficulty, etc etc. Itās a very goldilocks situation. The hood/cowl is just the first part. I want to make some mitts with a finger hole so I can use my phoneā¦or maybe flip top mitts - I havenāt decided on that yet. And leg warmers (inspired by @AIMR) .
I am organizing and culling my wardrobe as well. I find that I reach for the same items over and over so I am figuring out what it is and either getting or making similar.
I also like to learn and play with yarn, so I have loads of knitted items that I made for me, but, like you, donāt wear for one reason or another. I am sure they will be worn by someone so into the donation box they go!
I thought about frogging some of them, but then stopped myself because it isnāt like I donāt have any yarn to use for new projects!
I also have some projects I started to match some favorite cardigans but never finished because I got stuck. Now that I am better at colorwork, I feel like I can tackle them again.
All of you inspire me to tackle more challenging projects, even if they donāt turn out perfectly!
Oh, and, I have been wearing the heck out of my leg warmers. I found that my legs donāt ache or cramp up at night if I keep them on even in bed!
I am finding that my socks are not warm enough to keep my legs cozy. Why not knit some cozy socks then? Well, I am not the biggest fan of handmade socks gasp because they can be too bulky in my shoes, and I wear holes in them way to fast for my liking. So I think legwarmers will be the perfect thing to bridge that gap.
I also wear some knee-high wellies (I think thatās the right term - rubbery rain boot basically) for when we get deep snow, and theyāre decent at keeping me dry, not so much warm. So Iām going to make some specific leg warmers/boot toppers for those to add some insulation.
Leg warmers for all occasions! Linda, you are truly inspiring me to keep on knitting haha.
I have a few pairs of shorter fleece lined booties but snow falls into them because of how deep it is! I made a couple pairs of short boot toppers that sort of block the snow from falling in. I am desperate to adapt to these winter conditions (although my friends in Wilmington, NC are also getting snow! ha ha).
I passed on some unworn knit items this weekend. Part of me wanted to frog them and remake them, but Iām in the same boat as Lindaā¦I have plenty of yarn to knit replacements that fit me better. I had a cotton pullover, a wool cardigan, and a wool/mohair slipover that were supposed to be āoversizedā but were just too large on me after losing weight. I gave them to an elderly family member, knowing she will enjoy them. It was her birthday, too, so she got a few bonus gifts.
I only managed 4 projects for January.
Iāve got at least three WIP projects plus February is a bookbinding marathon in another craft group I belong to, so hopefully Iāll be able to knock off a few more this month.
I mean, it barely qualifies as a project, but I do have a daily scrap thing going on in the Thing-a-Day thread.
