That’s a clever adjustment to mittens!
Thank you
It was a simple modification; just bind off 3 or 4 stitches, and then cast back on in the next round.
Well now I want to make mittens!!
Finished another crochet headband before breakfast and errands. I started it last night. It is so quick that I am making more! The tutorial I used was in Portuguese with no translation, but it was so well done that I could follow easily.
That headband pattern is so pretty! I can see why it’s addicting to make more.
Wow, everyone is so active on this thread this year!
I’m constantly increasing my digital detox that I desperately need. I don’t want to disappear from LC but I need to manage my activities here, too. I just fall into old habits too quickly if I pick up my phone too often. I guess I will check in every weekend to catch up.
@AIMR I love how you keep everyone motivated. Your weekly question are wonderful! I don’t know if it counts but I’ll just answer all of them right now.
I have some age old WIPs that probably need scrapping, but they are stashed away deeply and there’s no immediate need to pull them out.
This would be my daughter’s new bike. This is the before:
There’s this top I made three or four years ago. It’s just missing a neckline and hemming but it somehow ended up in a box. I think I could finish the next time I’m sewing something. Not sure how to do the neck, because the leftover fabric from this project has probably disappeared. Maybe I’ll post a pic here tonight and ask for ideas.
This would be the bookmarks for my kids. I started those when they were with their father and finished them the week after while watching tv.
I worked on the bike every weekend and sometimes in the evenings. It’s almost done now. I didn’t take many in progress pictures.
- Colorful dress for DD
- PJ pants for SO
- Northern lights painting requested by DS2.
Started knitting the felt bag from the “this quarter” list. Both it and the Kidlet sweater are from the same book of patterns so I can trade off procrastinating on each by switching to the other haha.
I am midway (except not really nearly halfway) through the arduous project of moving around the craft lab, TheMisterT’s office, guest room, guitar storage. This is all just two rooms and a wide hallway and taking so much longer because of TheMisterT working from home 100%. BUT I took a big step forward last week when I was in a city with an Ikea and got 15 inserts from my old 5x5 Expedit cube shelf! Anyway… all this means less time for making things and it’s a bit sad. I knew you all would understand.
Please everyone, know that the weekly questions are for you to use or not to help you through a project or inspire you to do another. Questions can be answered at any time!
A bit late but here is Week 7: What is your “go-to” project when you just want to make something? This is probably something you already have the supplies on hand at a moment’s notice. When was the last time you made your “go-to” project? Do you need to fill up on supplies? (ha ha) (3 pts)
Week 7 - Usually crocheted blanket squares or baskets. They’re easy projects to work on while watching TV. I made several baskets last year and some small squares for a blanket! I have lots of yarn, but most is for other projects right now.
I don’t think I have a genuine go to project, but my go to supply is yarn so maybe dish cloths.
I usually default to scrappy notecards/ATCs or (wait for it) calendar page envelopes. Something I can easily do on the couch.
My go-to “must make something” project is usually a knit dishcloth or a crochet baby blanket. I don’t actually need either of these items and I struggle to keep the needed yarn in stash, so I’ve been trying my hand at the Musselburgh hat pattern lately to help reduce the fingering-weight yarn. But I only need so many hats…
Cross stitch cards! I have a big thread stash, so I can always find the right colours and I have plenty of fabric scraps too. I then mail them to LC’ers all over the world so I can make new ones.
Most of my cross stitch stash is inherited / thrifted / lucky dip stuff but having a stash full of odd bits is perfect for small projects. I subscribed to a cross stitch magazine for a number of years so I have enough patterns for a lifetime too (plus Pinterest and occasional purchases from designers). Right now I’m on a short trip and I packed a magazine from 2008 + supplies for 3 cards.
My go-to project is almost always painting.
My go-to project is knitting. Surprise surprise. No particular project, but just knitting something..anything haha.
I don’t have a go-to project, but sometimes I wish I did. I think this is more about it being nearly impossible for me to make something without an end-goal for the finished project. Sometimes I think I should start some HUGE cross stitch project to have for working on when I need a go-to or to travel with, but I’m just more of a work on it till it’s done maker. Also, I don’t have anything to do with a finished HUGE cross stitch project.
That’s why I often make small projects, that can be turned into cards, so I don’t have to keep it all. I’m on an overnight ferry right now and a small piece of cross stitch is perfect. It takes almost no effort, no space, and the other options are the on-board casino or listening to the guy with the guitar attempting 90s ballads…
I think if I could make just-because, cross stitch cards would be a good option.
Not everyone can make things just because.
I tend to see things that I want to try with no end game in mind. I end up with a lot of things that I don’t know what to do with. But, for me, that’s ok because I am a process person. I enjoy the process as much as the finish.
I would say making cards like general “thank you’s” or “hello’s” are a bit go to. But still, you have a purpose for them in mind. That’s all good!
