I finally finished my pocket shawl from 2025. Spring is slow to get here so we still have chilly days and nights. I put it on my reading chair to wear to keep me cozy!

The color is off in this next picture, but you can see the cool stitches that are up so much yarn and took forever to do. I am not even going to guess how many mistakes there are, but probably only noticeable by me. It is done…and now I can move on!

That’s really cool. The pocket is such a fun feature.

So lovely!

ATC class, just 2 hours & then they were traded all away or I’d have liked to add just a bit more, they could have used words, borders, finessing. Fun time though.

These are so fun! I hope you’ll consider giving them a project post.

Heart block completed & bound!

I’ll add this lil patch to a card front for correspondence. I got some letters to write!

I went back and revamped/updated my list. I’ve reached 20 projects but I’ve only posted pictures of about 6 of them. Apologies for any upcoming project photo dumps I may make to remedy that situation (for my own record keeping)!

That’s great! We love photos!

I am working on a couple of sketchbooks myself. I am intrigued by a few interesting bindings that allow you to remove the paper. Today, the one I am doing is called the Australian Piano Hinge binding. Lots of folding and careful measuring.

I am using up some of my old gift wrap as cover papers and hinges. It will be an interesting make because I am just not that precise in any project I do, but I sure am going to give it a go!

I’m hoping to finish a knit hat this week then order up yarn for triplet babies coming this summer to my homeschool mom friends group.

This week, I am going to go through and see if I made anything off my various lists…my guess is, I didn’t make a lot as I tend to get distracted!

I just ordered a huge supply of cotton because now I want to make these amigurumi animals for my little niece. I really hate it, but she seems to love the feel of the yarn over store bought stuffies.

I can also work on my Catalona Flower shawl, which is basically just joining those hundreds of little flowers I made a few years ago.

Here it is, the second full week in April and tax week!

Week 14: Do you get stressed out during tax time? Does crafting help or are you too distracted?

I totally get stressed out because I know I always have to pay. I really don’t like the government having any more money than is required. I also stress out because I do everyone in the family, and now that the three teenagers are working, they are added to my list. I don’t charge them, but they still often have to pay the online fees (which I will pay as part of their pay for doing errands for me, like rake the yard!).

Yes, I do a lot of crafting. Why? Because I am procrastinating. Also, I do one, then craft as a ā€œrewardā€.

Oh…and I FINALLY mailed out a package to someone that was due LAST YEAR!

Yes! Up until the start of April I am usually procrasti-crafting, but once April hits I get paralyzed until taxes are done. If you’re familiar with the phenomenon where your brain doesn’t let you do anything before an appointment even if it’s later in the day, it’s like that but with pretty much any task until I get the taxes taken care of. One year I got my taxes done in February and it was glorious but I haven’t been that organized in years. Maybe someday it will happen again.

When I was a practicing CPA, I always extended my tax own tax return no matter if I was due a refund or owed. I promised myself that once I retired, I would do ours by the due date. So far, since 2019, I have filed on time twice. I am doing it today and paying online. Wow! Two days in advance! ha ha

Sort of? I get overwhelmed at the idea of rounding up all my info, but then usually it’s not actually as bad as I remember. But then I tend to forget that by the next tax season. This year I used the TurboTax expert deal (because the firm I previously used cut me loose when it downsized its client list and I slacked about finding someone else), and it was such a low-stress nonevent. I just have to remember to pay the feds this week…

ETA: re: the crafting element, it’s sort of a wash. I craft to ā€œdestressā€ (procrastinate) but am aware of what I ā€œshould be doing.ā€ So it helps but also creates its own stress .

I definitely am a procraftinator but this year we went in early so we couldn’t flake and be late. Ideally we’ll do yhat going forward.

Yes. A lot. Crafting doesn’t generally help, but just allows me to procraftinate and make the stress worse.

I need to do more heart projects! I love the mix of greens. Didn’t realize the block was tiny!

Yes, all I had was the smallest of scraps to work with! The light green was the biggest piece, I had it in a hoop as backing fabric. When I cut that project out, there were some larger (still small tho) scraps, enough to build a little wee heart. It was way way too small to measure anything, I had to guess! And hand sew without any pins too, ha. At one point I did start cutting up fusible webbing to help hold the teeny pieces together. It all made me realize how much I need a very bright light to illuminate any stitch work. This was tiny in all the ways :winking_face_with_tongue:
